Hi All,
my son goes for Primary One registration this year. I’m deciding between Holy Innocents and St Gabriels. I’m not sure if my son will be able to cope with higher Chinese at HIPS as we are an English speaking family. The school tells me that they can only opt out of Higher Chinese in P5 and take normal chinese for P6. Not sure if this would affect their affiliation to the Secondary School.
St Gabriels, on the other hand, from what I’ve heard, is a more "laid-back" school, believing to let the kids progress at their own level and not put too much pressure on them, aka less stress for parents too?
I plan to start him on Chinese enrichment soon - he can speak a few lines but still cant recognise Chinese words. Overall, when it comes to learning and doing his work, he is quite a fast learner and can pick up very fast.
I’m two shoes about this - any advice from parents out there? To start my son at a higher level or at a school which he can develop at his own pace? My other concern also is that I would prefer him to go to a co-ed school rather than a boy’s school. He’s quite cheeky by nature and can be boisterous when with too many boys.
Appreciate your advice please.
Thanks! -

What about your registration chances? Which school will stand a better chance?Hi All,

I believe places in HIPS will be taken up by phase 2C. Impression that HIPS is a better bet though. -
Hi,
regarding my chances, for HIPS, I register at 2B as I’m Catholic. And also stand a chance at 2C for distance within 1km. For St Gabriel, 2B. So I guess that means I stand a better chance a HIPS. Although I’ve heard that its quite a good chance that I can get in at 2B for St Gabs. Such a dilemma! -

I think St Gabs tend to have more seats left behind???? While HIPS is more challenging. If your child can pick up CL, I personally feel that HIPS is a better choice.Hi,

Hmmm…yes I know HIPS is a better choice but whether he can cope is another question. Any ideas of how the kids are like at HIPS? Behaviour wise?
Anyone familiar with Monfort Junior? -
Personally I’d go for HIPS. if he gets a gd tuition teacher / enrichment course that can make learning CL fun, then overall he might be average in HIPS chinese-wise, but still not totally demoralised.
