I am a bit confused here. With reference to Mr Choo's talk yesterday, it seems that there is no such thing as core and merit CCA anymore. At least it wasn't mentioned at all. Only 3 CCA (eg.library) can only be taken as a 2nd CCA.HermioneGranger:
Hello!
after going to the CCA Orientation, I found that many CCAs interested me, but can any seniors recommend how many CCAs to try out for? What's the norm? Thanks!
Um maybe 4-6? Although u can try out for more if u are worried that u won't get in...
Sometimes they also tell u if you've gotten in shortly after the trials (like 1 / 2 days later) so if u really want that CCA and you've already gotten in u can just skip the rest of the trials you've signed up for. Just email the teacher in charge
Personally, I signed up for like 7 CCA trials
but since I had already gotten into my 1st choice CCA, I just skipped the rest of the trials haha
Also, if u are interested in a CCA that can be counted as a merit cca (eg robotics, debate, etc.), u can have that as a 2nd CCA on top of ur core CCA
u only need like 35% attendance for merit CCAs...
Yesterday when we went round the CCA booth, some seniors didn't know the change (or was there?), but one girl was very confidently telling us that there is a change and every CCA, except for the 3, can be taken as a main CCA.
Can anyone enlighten me? -
I planning to try out for nine.
ill base my six options on the selection results -

They haven't updated it since a long, long time ago. Maybe you can get your DD to check with the seniors for updated versions.
ThanksHerbie:

Hi a child, what are you supposed to do during the orientation concert? Can you please give some examples of the concert items? :thankyou:
a child:
My parents work similar times, but it worked out because I was in a very, very lucky situation. No parent in my primary school class took leave during PSLE exam days, and as I'd my DSA already, I wasn't nearly as nervous for results. For Reporting Day, my dad dropped me off on his way to work, and I was lucky enough that I had good friends, and one of them had nice parents who \"adopted\" me, though I'd to go to GO and say I couldn't submit forms. And he just picked me up after the Orientation concert. I didn't take a 3rd Lang. I was fine with most of it actually, I didn't feel neglected at all. Except that maybe I'd wish that my dad went to watch our Orientation concert, but I'm fine with all the rest
Your parents must have had full confidence in you.watmekiasu:

You don't have to take leave for most of these events. My parents never took any leave for my PSLE, nor did they do so for Reporting Day or any part of Orientation, and it was ok. So if you really can't make it, don't worry
Though my friends' parents did go for Reporting Day and watched the Orientation concert also (ours was on Saturday), they did not go for the rest of Orientation either
My dd requested for me to take 1/2 day on PSLE exam days for moral support. I could not say no.Took 1 day on Results Collection in case there was a disaster.
Took 1 day for Reporting Day as I had never visited the school before. Dd skipped MEP audition as I could not get leave and she still had no idea how to get to the school. She had a School Dental appointment on the same morning as the MOELC registration, so we both headed to different appointments. Actually, that did not need a half day leave as MOELC was efficient and fast. I won't be going for the CCA orientation but would like to watch the Concert. Hope it's still on a weekend. Seriously, my daughter has never seen so much of me - I usually work till 8pm plus every weekday and return to work on some weekends.
Just fyi also, this year's Orientation Concert (if the schedule has not changed since I last saw it), is on Friday Week 1 (for previous years, we started school on Monday/Tuesday and Orientation was just that week till Saturday, so the concert was Saturday). It's from 530 - 710 pm, and the timing may be less of a stretch I guess considering it's not really early. But I would encourage you to go if you can, especially if your dd wants you to :)
-

You also get to hear some cool raffles cheers and watch the result of orientation--your DD enjoying school and fitting into the Raffles Family

Choco,
I got the class time table from the FT today. I notice there is no time range for each period. I was told every 2 periods is 55 mins. I think perhaps itβs because some days start at diff time. Can I know where to find the time for the periods. Inet? I canβt find the current time table there. TIA -

Mon,Tue,Thu,Fri - full uniform
if PE day, use pinafore over PE shirt, then use blouse instead of PE shirt after. Recess is always after PE so you can change
Wed- PE shirt and culottes
For next week,
follow the same above except for Thu and Fri (camp), I think further instruction will be given later. -

Hello TheHamsterLover,

I notice many of the competitive CCA's take up 3 afternoons. Does that mean in this case, it is impossible to have a second CCA as you can never fulfill the 35% attendance even if you sacrifice 25% for your 1st CCA, it is still not enough for your second CCA's attendance.
I would also like to know if you gals suffer gastric from the irregular recess time. Someday so early at 8+, someday 10+. What's more lunch is so late. How do you cope, please enlighten us.
