Are the CCA points important only to those taking O level? How about for those doing IP?

I think points aren't important for ip sch students. -

In some schools the cca grade contributes to their final GPA. I think rgs has that. Depends on which ip school you are in. -
Skyed:
No, rgs doesn't do that.8228:

My DS has suddenly lot interest in St John CCA and wanted to change CCA to clubs. Has anyone change CCA at Sec2? Any advise on that?

Your DS will lose all the CCa points gained in Sec 1 and it can be hard work to accumulate points for the remaining 3 years to score well, though not impossible.
Persuade him to stay the course as I gathered from fellow forumners here that Uniform Groups are the easiest to score, but must persevere till Sec 4. -
Not sure how true. He tried to compare with friends that join club and they get more pts than him. The commitment is high for uniform group and he worried that he cannot cope with his studies. And he also claim that his points will not reset as St John is a voluntary CCA unlike NPCC and NCC. However, I have request him to check in detail before making any major decision.

When I went for CCA briefing for my DS on Saturday, we were told that in UG, they have must attendance of 75% and above to get the points. Anything below that, they don't get any.
By the way, perhaps you want to clarify with your DS how his friends in Clubs chalked up the points. Is he sure all of them are from participation only? Or maybe, those friends he is talking about takes up Leadership positions or took part in competitions, etc.. .. or could it be CIP points that they gain and not just from normal participation in Clubs? -

Hi, speaking from a general view of ALL CCAs. If you have less than 50% attendance for any particular year, your cca points accumulated in that year alone will be forfeited. If you have less than 25% attendance, your cca points accumulated up to that point (if you are in sec 4, your cca points from sec1-4) will ALL be forfeited. (Actually I'm not 100% sure on the figures, for the former it's either 50% or 75%, the latter is either 50% or 25%). Anyway. Just ATTENDING cca alone is not going to get you enough points for your A1/2. If you are in UG, you must make effort to get the various badges, because that's what the main bulk of cca points for those in UG come from. An \"easy\" way for CCA points is CIP, completing 100hours gives you 5 leaps points. You need 20 points to get an A2, which will allow you to -2. Being in any cca for 4 years gives you 1 cca point per year, which means a total of 4 from 4 years. If you do the math, you just need 11 more from leadership/enrichment/participation/achievement to get 20. Most schools make their students do NYAA, doing NYAA bronze (super easy, all just paperwork if your school organises the activities) gives you two points. If you go further to do NYAA silver, you get more points. If you decide to go all the way to do NYAA gold in JC, you get to receive award from president personallySuper Alice:
