Oh ok, noted. But the airfares are always different in terms of airlines & periods. No specific amount at all, then how?

check a few websites and inquire for the date that she's due to leave - then get an average of 3 quotes. We do the same for due dliligence - so can't fault you for that eh? 😉

        Thanks for the advice! :hugs:

Really gotta find out the SOP if she is extending her contract or not extending.

Seems like there're a lot of procedures if I dont wanna go thru agent. Passport renewal, contract etc. Also her luggage stuff...the list goes on n on...

In the past, when my ex-maid wanted to renew her work permit, we had an agreement that she will stay for the length of the new work permit; else I will deduct the money I spent on the renewal, and also renewal of passport.

Not sure if that’s quite legit (at least now probably cannot; last time black hole).

Find it very strange. on the one hand, authorities say we should treat them like adults (hold own work permit, own money, etc); on the other hand, they are like kids (employers liable if they go missing, employers pay for all their medical expenses). I get very confused.

Regarding increment, actually $20/30 dun seem much; but it’s actually about 10% increment. I will only give increment if I see improvement in her work (ie don’t have to instruct so much) - if there is no change in job scope, or no improvement, I keep quiet about increment.

            Hi All,

If the current maid had finish the maid loan I can just striaght away cancel her WP & get her an air ticket back to a home country or should I send her back to the agent?

Current maid had been working almost 7 months. still very blur like sotong. Where the sky is dark dark suppose to keep the clothes. In the end wait until it rain then she go & keep while in the midst of cooking.

I find that the quality of maid now is getting back to worst. My maid agency is Z.zzz type, ask for replacement bio-data like bochap bochap type.

Agree that once change a maid have to start with new maid loan, insurance, safety course which easily add up to $3,000! :!:

            Hi titank,

Usually if the maid has no more outstanding loan, you can cancel her work permit and buy her an airticket home.
Still, I will advise you to check your employment agreement with the agency.
I believe as long as your maid doesn't owe them any more money, they should have no objections of you sending her back 😉

Ha.ha I guessed maybe just send back to the agent where settle my problem. This maid after working 6-7 months equally blur like sotong.
It all boils down to getting a good maid really depends on luck.

I agree with kiasimom abt telling maid directly. However when I tell my maid certain things, she didnt look at me, as in no eye contact, no 'yes mom' and the face no smile. Wabiang!

I used to have maid when I talked to her, she is not responding.
I just told her it is basic courtesy to look at people when they are talking to you.
From then on, she will look at me in the eyes.

              Hi,

My current maid also like have \"Banana\" inside her mouth.Sometime talk to her she didn't respond.

I get very unhappy when a maid does this - still all the ones I employed have done so. Will look at them in the face and tell her that it's rude, and she's conveying to me that she is above me. After that, they usually cease and desist.

C'mon, if I do that to my boss at work, I don't think I will be FTWM very much longer.

for maids coming from certain backgrounds, like Myanmar and ulu Indo villages, and India, it’s considered rude to look at someone in the eye. Looking at the ground, with the head bowed, while the boss is talking, is considered submissive and polite.

Of course, looking elsewhere and not responding isn’t.

My new Indo maid from an ulu village, doesn’t look at my eyes when i talk to her, but rather, respond with little nods, or soft "Yes", while looking at the ground. I would not consider this as rude.

Afterall, they’re from very different worlds.

                    hi skunk,

                    Thanks! I never knew that.

But they don’t have to look at me in the eyes, but rather, at least just face me when I’m talking. Sometimes, they even turn their backs before I was finished (ok, I’m naggy).

And the acknowledging part, yup, few times, I cannot hear their acknowledgment.

BTW, my maids were all ex-Jakarta (at least 2 years there), so I don’t think the ulu part applies - unless of course this is the practice even in Jakarta.

But all that said, i will still keep in mind this in future.

                    merry xmas to you!

                      Isit true :?
Hi. That's true. My previous maid did not take home leave and I reimbursed her the money for airfare. This should be stated in the employment contract.
