for maids coming from certain backgrounds, like Myanmar and ulu Indo villages, and India, it’s considered rude to look at someone in the eye. Looking at the ground, with the head bowed, while the boss is talking, is considered submissive and polite.

Of course, looking elsewhere and not responding isn’t.

My new Indo maid from an ulu village, doesn’t look at my eyes when i talk to her, but rather, respond with little nods, or soft "Yes", while looking at the ground. I would not consider this as rude.

Afterall, they’re from very different worlds.

        hi skunk,

        Thanks! I never knew that.

But they don’t have to look at me in the eyes, but rather, at least just face me when I’m talking. Sometimes, they even turn their backs before I was finished (ok, I’m naggy).

And the acknowledging part, yup, few times, I cannot hear their acknowledgment.

BTW, my maids were all ex-Jakarta (at least 2 years there), so I don’t think the ulu part applies - unless of course this is the practice even in Jakarta.

But all that said, i will still keep in mind this in future.

        merry xmas to you!

My maid can tell me if she is extending her contract but not taking home leave, she should be given the air fare money.

          Isit true :?
Hi. That's true. My previous maid did not take home leave and I reimbursed her the money for airfare. This should be stated in the employment contract.

I used to have a manila maid who will look anywhere except my face when I talk to her. Even though I told her repeatedly she should look at me when I am talking to her, she just stand there for a good 15mins just looking elsewhere!

In this case, she is obviously trying to spite me and have no regards for me.
She cries everyday, affecting my family. She claimed she misses home and her family is very rich and can redeem her loan. Told me she came here just to explore, not really set on working!
Yes, you got it right. I sent her packing the next day after dinner.
She even has the cheek to ask me why. I told her I cannot live with her attitude and I am granting her wish.
Sent her back to agency and who knows if her family redeems her.

                hey, you are so lucky.

Which homekeeper branch you go to?

Are all your maids fresh or with experience?thanks

I went to homekeeper at Elias Mall in Pasir Ris.
Past 2 maids were ex- S'pore.
                This new one ex- Malaysia.

                Can't imagine training from scratch!
                titank:
Is Homekeeper good? I fnd that average agent fee range at least like $300. Maybe mine was those low agency fee like $88 that why the quality of filipino maid that I get is no good.

Sometime I find that the same bio-data can be found in different agencies. Wonder is ti just the same supplier that the agencies that you are using?
                So far homekeeper is professional.
Usually their fees are $500+, but i paid $350+ because of some promotion.
I heard from my maids that they are sent for some training in Jarkata before they come to Singapore. They are taught some English, some cooking recipes and safety issues before they came. They have all these written in an exercise book.
So far the biodata is correct for my previous maids.
In fact, the first one standard of english was good, but rated as fair in her biodata! The second's english was fair, but was rated as poor in her biodata! The way to gauge their standard of english is to see their working experience. The first 2 worked in Singapore before. Their previous employers spoke to them in english.

                  You know cmm,

My DH and I have this philosophy when it comes to certain things in life and hiring maids is one of them - hope for the best BUT expect the worst 🙏 🙏 😉 😄

                  Yes, fully agree :celebrate:

Thanks for the input too, kiasimom!

Normally where did you all go select maid? Normaly I would go is Katong Shopping Centre, Hougang Green Shoppng Centre & Bt Timah Shopping Centre.

Trying to find $0 agency fee or perhaps $88 agent fee. Many years ago I paid agent fee $588 for Myanmar maid where the serivce from the maid agency is not very good. The maid stole our $$ & we reported to the police. In this instance I lost my maid loan!
                    😢

                      Hi titank,

I always go to Nation eastpoint, only time I went to Net Resource and got the scariest fright of my life over their service :x

From the info that I gathered, those $88 agency are far from good.

Just my 2cents worth of thought

I heard from my maid that some agents just go to the kampong and get maid here, ie without training. I guess that's why they can charge cheap as there is no training centre.
So far my very 1st maid was from Nation, she worked for me for 8 years.
Then as i have mentioned, the next 3 are from Homekeeper.
These 2 agencies may charge slightly higher but the maids so far for me are good, though a good maid does not mean a perfect maid.
