Paya Lebar Methodist Girls

Parents of girls who have gone beyond P2, did you find the recommended P2 dictionaries helpful? Or is there a software/ electronic dictionary that fits all the bill - portable, accurate, wide vocab, has illustrations / easy to understand for younger readers?

Any of you feel that the food sold is a bit expensive? 1 bottle of chocolate milk costs $1 and 1 crabstick sushi costs $0.70!!

Btw, anyone knows more abt the Parents’ briefing on 25th? It was mentioned in the last 2 letters but no concrete details stating the reason & content of the briefing.
-
May be similar to last year. 4-6pm is for P1 and P2 parents to learn some Maths heuristics, model drawing, etc. maths stuff so we can help our children when the teachers teach them...
The 7-9pm could be the various HODs of different subjects explaining how they teach their subjects and introducing the contents... There's also a part on what's covered under PAL... And lastly Q&A with the principal where parents can ask any questions (e.g. canteen food prices and range were queried last year).. like a town hall meeting style.
Hope this helps. Other mummies can correct or supplement. -
Math Workshop:
Yes, the brief mentioned that it is the SAME workshop the teachers conducted last year for the parents of P1, P2.
If you have gone last year, (p2 parents) you can give it a miss this time round. Last year, workshop was conducted on a Saturday but this year, on Friday since the briefing for parents will take place in the evening.
As for the Parents' Briefing, I would think it is like what Bluedale has explained.SPIES:

Bluedale:
Highly recommend to attend the 4-6pm session. Parents can attempt the questions which their kids will be doing and ask the teachers if you have any queries. there are 2 teachers to a session and it was very detailed. It helps any parents who wants to know what Heuristics is and how to approach it.May be similar to last year. 4-6pm is for P1 and P2 parents to learn some Maths heuristics, model drawing, etc. maths stuff so we can help our children when the teachers teach them...

The teachers will also share the types of careless mistakes students will make and what are the guidelines in drawing the models.
7 - 9pm - Parents Briefing starts off with P giving the opening and each subject head will share what the syllabus and additional enrichment work for the students. CCA will be touched on followed by Parents' Q&A.
I will be attending the briefing again this year due to new P and I noticed my P1 girl has different course work for her english and maths.
and also look out for interesting questions by parents. :torchme:
Last year, 1 parent actually questioned the english subject head how his girl will know about farm animals when there are no farms in Singapore. :skeptical: -

Hmm, last year the food pricing was very reasonable. Not sure about this year since DD1 and DD2 has been bringing packed recess box from home.
I did pass them pocket money today and DD1 (P2) said $2 is more than enough. so will check with her tonight. -

The 2 abovementioned items do seem abit expensive. My dd don't buy drinks at all. She usually spends btw $1 - $1.20, mainly on 菜饭 or noodles. Or she will pack snacks/sandwiches from home. -
No idea of the cost of food too as my girl also pack food for school.
But there is something bugging me regarding money ... will see if the situation improves and hopefully, by the end of the month, does not happen again.SPIES:

What happened Krazy?
For food prices, DD1 had fishball noodles for 50cents and she said most of the drinks are 40 cents except for the milk.
DD2 had sushi and she had a roll of cucumber sushi for $1.40. she was saying that it is almost the same amount as cold storage sushi but maybe less 2 pieces. so $1.40 seems decent, the preparation isnt easy. the rest are quite reasonably priced.
DDs said they will try out other food and let me know.
