Hi everyone I'm new here!
Just received my O level results yesterday, have a raw L1R5 of 6, 4 after bonus points. I visited NJ's open house, the facilities and everything seems really nice but didn't manage to visit the CCAs :(. Anyway, could anyone share about their experiences at NJC (It's known for being a boring school, is that true or just a silly stereotype?) and the academic aspect/ teachers! :). I have a friend who claimed that the better teachers have been picked up by other schools? I'm not very outgoing so I'm ok with a more 'boring'/ 'quiet' school, but how is the school life like?
Also, if this helps, I'm currently undecided between VJC and NJC. :). I live in Serangoon area so the travelling time for both is about the same. Thank you! -
My dd had a very fruitful and memorable time the last 5 days during Jh1 orientation, she enjoyed every moment and discovered her area of weakness and strength after going thru all the trials that was offered for CCA. and other activities.
Shes in the orange team led by I think, she calls them OGs… they were very encouraging, helpful and led the team very well, dd already miss them cos they come frm different levels n she felt that they put in so much time and effort that they probably missed their lessons. Anyway, their efforts were nt wasted as the group did benefit alot during the orientation. Told dd its time to mentally prepare herself for serious work next week. Glad to see the Njc spirit in her as she continue to experience the ups and down in life. -

Moonee, I agree . My dd miss her OG too . She told me that they want to form a group chat for her OG . She told me her seniors are approachable and friendly and even after the first day of school , they will SMS her to remind her what to bring . They are like a family .

I believe that the OGLs and especially the Orientation Organising Committee would be very heartened to hear that your daughter had a great time! I'm really excited and grateful as I am your dd's OGL!
As an OGL, this is the best part as we OGLs are there to create the best experience and memories possible for them to take throughout their 6 years here.
Since you have given reflections about your daughter's experience, I shall give mine!
Being an OGL is not easy. There are classes I have to miss, I have to take care of a group of 16 children, and I will have to carry the responsibility to make sure that Orientation runs smoothly and the Orientees have a good time. But this is part and parcel of being an OGL. We OGLs applied to have fun, because we loved our Orientation, and we want our juniors to love theirs too.
While there were many ups and downs when taking care of my OG(they could be very uncooperative at times and that really tested my patience), I really enjoyed taking care of them. I loved being their second parent. It was an absolute joy taking them as they made Orientation lively and joyful, and they were always enthusiastic, always ready and hyped up for whatever activities we had.
I know that my OG was really bonded together and in such a short period of time, we have become so close. To my dear Orientees: I know that separation from these guys are hard. But in time, you will make even more friends and you will love your class and your teachers. But do keep in contact with your old friends too! It will come in handy for Boarding! I hope you guys have an awesome time in NJ, and remember to wave to me if you see me!
Lastly, always keep in mind your Orientation theme: SOAR: Believe you can and you will. I'll miss you guys!
(To those considering NJ: NJ is great! Orientation will be one of the best experiences you've had! There'll be lots of fun in NJ!) -

Contrary to popular belief, NJ is not a boring school. I love NJ, just like one loves his family. NJ IS family, as a matter of fact. However, we do not have elitism. We love anyone and everyone. In NJ, there will be a lot of interaction opportunities across the levels as well and both the juniors and seniors are really close! (We juniors are always sad to see the seniors go after their A levels) School life is really vibrant to me as there are lots of activities going on and lots of things to discover! Trust me, you'll be outgoing when you come to NJ! Our Orientation will open you up and soon you will be chatting away like there's no tomorrow.
As for the academics side, I'm not too sure about the JC curriculum, but the tutorial notes are a lot less thicker than in HCI or RI(JC). As for the teachers, it really depends as we both have very strict teachers as well as very kind and encouraging teachers, but both kinds want you to do well.
For the CCA side, NJC is legendary for its strong canoeing team. However, I'm not too sure for the rest.

Have been in NJ for a couple of years, personally my experience have been good so far! I know there's a typical stereotype of NJ being a mugger school, but in fact i don't really find it that way. The seniors that i know (I'm in Junior High) from Senior High are mostly spontaneous and very active. School events are generally nice and we can be pretty hyped up too (; There are bound to be some muggers in every school i guess though. The teachers here are relatively nice But i guess it's really subjective cuz there are good and 'bad' teachers in every school too. Some of my really nice teachers have transferred to other schools (that's pretty true :stompfeet: ) but there are still other nice ones left I do have a few teachers who are very friendly and treat us students like friends. They are very caring and very willing to share with us their own experiences. I think CCA would play a big role in school, but most of the CCAs here are good and friendly i guess. Don't go for a CCA for it's achievements i'd say, go for your passion (; For me myself, I joined my CCA since Sec1 and I'm really close to my seniors :hugs: I've seen several batches graduate and leave the school but we're still close and sometimes they will come back to visit while we train
