Hi fellow KS parents, have a K1 boy whom we realised require additional help on top of the PCF K1 programme. Enrolled him into the recommended schools (e.g CMA, Tsien Hsia, ICR…) to provide him the "boost" that he needs.

Tried sitting down with him daily for 1 worksheet or 2 and I realised that he has a very short attention span. Into the 2th or 3th question his eyes will start to dart all over the room, starts playing with items on the table or my watch…etc.
Anyone knows of any programmes out there that can help with a child’s concentration? Thanks

Maybe give him time to adjust to "table" time and provide him with motivation when necessary. My ds who will be Pri 1 next year is the same. He can drag a piece for an hour or more if he wants or complete it it efficiently. I feel its normal, there’s many things a 4 or 5 year old boy rather do.

Thanks sweetbaby, you made a very good point. Shall let him adjust to table time.

Actually I don't wish to stress my boy but at the same time I realise that our educational system is not as forgiving when he goes into P1. Don't want him to be \"shocked\" when he enrolls in structured education ie. primary school.

Agreed, i feel its also necessary that they are aware of the true nature of education in Spore. I’m gently easing my Ds into the system. I’m trying out using a timer and a set time to complete a work. Once he could complete work that could be done in ten minutes, I slowly gradually increase the time frame. Hope it works for you.

Maybe the child has ADD. Seek professional help from KKH or NUH child development unit.

No ADD la, all these assessed by our Paediatrians already. Just need getting used to time table.

I have 2 children with very short attention span. The elder was diagnosed with Attention Deficit. The second one under my suspicion but I did not bring for any test.

Please help your child concentrate by
                  1. Reducing sugary foods
                  2. Reduce or limit use of ipads galaxy tabs mobile phone games and tv.
                  3. letting child do a little physical excercise before seating down to study it helps.
4, remove provide a very clean desk with few items to reduce opportunity to fiddle with things.

I hope the above helps you.

Daily I am dealing with the short attention span of my younger child. He is in primary 2, I am the policewoman catching him… to try to get him to sit down to do his work…

Sigh , can die! very tiring !

sometimes poor concentration and attention could be due to some weakness kids may be facing such as unable to quickly differentiate words visually will reduce their attentiveness in reading? I think can try out programmes that target in finding out the root cause and try to improve these areas, attention normally improves in a way too 😃
