I take to reminding the kids about my birthday ,very very subtly, by saying
\"Hey! you have one week to buy me the gift and do the card.\"
\"Hey, You know better drop all work and do it now! Just a day left.\"
And at bedtime \"Remember you have to wish me tomorrow morning. Dont forget.\"

And let me tell you , the success rate is like 80%, honestly.
