Yes study smart not hard. Otherwise there won't be time left to sleep. I'm still trying to maintain 9pm lights out.

DS got no supplementary lessons but instead they have to stay back for complusory Hip Hop Dance till 4.30pm once a week. Not sure how useful is this for DS as he has absolutely no interest! 🤷

My DS school will have Bangla Dance lessons. But not sure when they are starting. I think it should be quite fun lah! Tell your kid to \"let loose\" and enjoy and take a break from studying.

Hahaha...DS got 2 left feet so very bad at dancing. That's why it's not his cup of tea. 😂

Janet, maybe your DS's school tries to give extra help to all the kids. So maybe when he comes home, he already has most of the information implanted in his head.

        He can't wait for CNY.
I lost touch of his numerous tests...but as a parent, I am very grateful for the extras.

I didn't expect supplementary lessons till 430pm after school on Mon, Tue, Thur and Friday...I told him he must wake up after 30 min nap bcos he has to get homework done and revise for endless tests. He has tried to go w/out nap but was a zombie by 7pm.

I guess this school expects students not to have other tuition or coaching, so provides the extra classes? If the school provides this, then maybe your son may not need so much other help.

So many supplementary lessons at Sec in term 1? Got time for CCA? The teachers are giving them a good head start by preparing the kids for O level early. Just like we had started preparing our kids for PSLE at P4. Don't worry, your boy is in good hands. My boy will only get his tests next week & so far no supplementary lessons.

Oh dear, after reading all the postings, I am worried that my DS school is too relax. Only one English comprehension test so far to gauge their standing. Maths slow pace with hardly any homework (finish in less than 15 min). Nothing heard for Humanities subjects.

Only killer homework so far was English journal, lots of research and analysis to prepare the GP std writeup.

DS still enjoying all the CCA trials that will go on till mid Feb I think. Selection for Sports merciless, school already said no leisure sport CCA participation. Every sport is competitive only.

Son had an English test on visual comprehension. Math homework almost everyday. Not complaining though…he is kept on his toes which is good.

CCA begins this Friday till 6pm…he will knock out after bath and dinner for sure. Ok lah, since it’s Sat next day.

Head start is not for O levels, I think…after all, they just started S1.

I also think that my school is quite relax. No tests so far, Math teacher just informed us about an upcoming test, but that'll only be 2 weeks later. He gives us 3 working days to complete homework, no matter how small / simple it is. Not really what I expected. The subjects are going at a steady pace, but amount of tests, homework and projects so far is little compared to my friend in another school.

The only ' not so relax ' subject is Chinese. My Chinese teacher is nice, but she talks fast and teaches fast. 2 / 3 weeks barely passed and we're already at chapter 4. I feel like I'm on a bullet train ... :scared: I'm not in a SAP school by the way. I don't understand why teacher is rushing so much though. We will be writing compositions this week, haven't wrote them for a while already, not sure if I can do well.

Speaking of Chinese, my son did have a composition last week. Topic was 我最喜欢的老师. He couldn't get it done...no pic :?:

Chinese is much tougher at sec 1...last week CL spelling + dictation. This week just spelling but having mental block now as he just can't remember.

Until now, I hv not bought my DS a handphone but I know he longs for one.

His sch allow students to bring hp but not use them during lessons. He says tilll today, he still haven't seen a public phone in sch so one time he used his friend's hp to call me during recess.

Should I get him one? A prepaid card or plan?

Do your children bring hp to school?
Thanks to all who have replied to my above query.

Guess I will get him a pre-paid card without mobile data. Noticed his classmates are on whatapps even during lessons! How do I know? He uses my phone at home to group chat with classmates but sometimes while he's in sch, I have messages coming in! Like that how to focus?

Even pre-paid card can surf internet, but the cost will be prohibitive if you accidentally log into it. Even some pre-paid card provides like 200MB of free internet.

As I have mentioned, to prevent accidental internet connection or stop your son from logging into the internet, call the service provider to disable your 3G function.
