We squeeze some time out of his schedule to watch the channel 8 show just now. Hope it is good!

Used commercial break to get him to learn moxie. His chinese tuition homework due tomorrow still undone!

Just when I thought chinese and english are going to kill us, I got my boy to try a CA1 paper 2 for math. He manages to get one wrong 4marks (score 26/30) due to careless mistake. But, he overrun the time by a good 30min! I stopped his work to collate his score before letting him continue - he flung the paper as he could not finish when time is up. Wake up call. One more month to CA to brush up his speed.

Yes, maths is quite a toughie. My dd also got a wake-up call 2 weeks ago. She attempted her 1st math CA1 pp then & got only 50+! That's a great drop from her normal 90+. Problem lies in paper 2, she was stumped & left half the paper blank, so I had to go thru with her. She did her 2nd one last week & thankfully managed to get 80+. Looks like this subject requires a lot of practice...

As for science, despite the 'innovative' way the school is trying to teach them, we are still 'groping around' on the scope of the topic learnt. I looked through some assessment books and 'extra reading' to have a feel. I must say that if they need to know all of the stuff written in those books, it's very daunting for the kids! Even I have problems understanding it at times!

As for hw & time management, yeah, too much hw & not enuf time. I know her school gives them tons of hw but my dd wld try to finish them in school - during recess time or in-btwn lessons or while waiting for aftnn class/b4 CCA. Still, the amt of CL hw is amazing!!! She usually can't finish the CL hw in school as she doesn't know how to, so I have to help her when she returns home.

She has to stay back at least twice a week too. Mon for HCL & Fri for CCA. Ano 1/2 days for other stuff like leadership training, outings & IT lessons. So I'm also missing our daily chitchat sessions when she comes home. Worst is Mon. She has enrichment class aft HCL, so she'll board the school bus at 6.20am & only reach home ard 7.20pm! Wow! 13-hr day!

It's really not easy being a pr school kid nowadays...

Yes, my dd too has more hw this year … and has less time in sch to complete her hw. She has dance on Mon, Wed & Sat, but no HMT, no supplementary classes, no tuition … so the other days she’s home for lunch then falls asleep in front of the TV. Sch does OnSponge and A Star Maths dur curriculum time. I try to get her to draw mind maps for Science. I think its useful to help in understanding the basic principals. Close to SA1, I’ll get her to pratice some exam papers to get her used to answering questions.

Dd stays back 3 times a week now but it would increase to 4 times a week. School will be conducting compulsory supplementary class for all 4 subjects and this applies to the whole cohort. Understand that supplementary class is just continuation of lesson time. Seems like the normal lesson time is not enough to cover the syalbus.

Seems like only my DD has no increase in homework. Nothing over last weekend. Claims all completed in school. Having a good time still.

Only HMT poses a challenge so far as DH struggles to help. Lol

I guess loads of hw is inevitable at P5. The principal did warn that for P5, we parents will see a sharp drop in their grades ( compared to P4), and asked us not to scold or admonish them. He said its very common. So, I am mentally prepared to see DS1 fail his maths in P5 ( either CA1 or SA1 ), as I knew many of the P5s in his school failed maths last year. In fact, I’d realized that P5 work is pretty tough… and am glad DS1 is taking it seriously for now, although he is having long days at school + tuition etc.
