We have all been to school before.
But studying at Mcdonalds didn’t happen during my time. Up till now, I can only work with music in the background when I iron clothes…something which doesn’t require much concentration.
My son will get to know today whether he is selected for the CCA…it is a whole year of waiting…from PSLE results, to sec school posting and now this CCA thing. Hopefully his CCA is on Fridays and involvement is minimal…common tests are coming up soon after CNY. Sorry off topic…this is for PSLE 2013.
After CNY, schools will push forth. -

Do you mind if you child does her work and have background music? Mine insists she must have background music whilst doing her homework at home. She says this will speed her up and help her concentrate. I am just worried that this will affect her concentration level when it comes to the real exam without a sound.
Having background music while studying is very popular with students aged 12 onwards and especially for secondary/JC n undergraduates. Just take a look at those students cramming in Macdonald's. It baffles me how they concentrate with all that noise and loud music going on. They usually listen to pop which I find distracting. I feel music without lyrics does wonders instead. Classical music relaxes the mind and encourages cognitive thinking. So it is good that my kid listens to classical pieces while doing Mathematics. Be selective though as some pieces can lull you to sleep!
In noisy places like Mac, plugging earphone filters out external noises. Once concentration is locked in, one cant hear the music at all. Regardless, I find those places too unconducive for studying.
The library, in contrast, is a stifling silence. When I was a student, I found the silence too distracting! .... Classical music is not 'happening' for most teens. Perhaps new age and instrumental might appeal to them more.... -
Can I know if any of your child has attempted Nanyang Primary 2012 CA1 paper? Can share your experience? I think my DS has trouble with most of the primary sums in paper 2? I want to

Wait till u try its prelim paper, not surprise that nyps has good result to show.
Well, as long as your child can do decently the rest of the qns from other top school then his Maths mastery is fine, try to build confidence n keep practicing … There is still 8 Mths down the road … Jia yu -

I hope so. DS is not strong in Maths so we are hoping to really boost confidence to prepare him for the BiG REAL thing. However, with such difficult questions(apply to him only ) it is quite depressing. Thanks! I will let him attempt other top school papers to balance it out.Wait till u try its prelim paper, not surprise that nyps has good result to show.

You might want to let him practice using assessment book. Fabian Ng problem sum is a good resource, problem sums made easy by Ammiel Wan a good guide but u will need to find relevant qns from top school exam to let him do practice, and of course on sponge p5 p6 conquer series is a gem to train problem solving ... Have a routine to practice n made the practice fun. I used to give bee stickers to my girl if she get more correct then wrong n sometimes her effort in solving the challenging problems .... They works wonder .... Enjoy the learning journey with him, in a blink of eyes it will be over ..... :rahrah:
