Are you ready for 7 million people on tiny Singapore?
-
NO!!! As it is now, every small plot of greenery that we used to have in between flats are being sold to build new condos or HDB. There is hardly any green spaces left. I think I don’t even have to go into the MRT/Bus squeeze, not only during peak hours, but now it is also super crowded at night and on weekends. Roads big and small are jammed packed.
Same as sleepy, I don’t enjoy going window shopping now (not that I can afford the time anyway). I only go shopping when I need to - its actually a torture to go shopping nowadays with the endless crowd, queues at every cashier, restaurant, carpark etc.
Frankly, the new spiderweb MRT network, which is supposed to be completed in 2030, can only support the current population. If we increase to 7 million, the MRT of 2030 will still feel like the MRT of today. -
We need to anticipate and improve infrastructure to accommodate increased population. However, with this never ending digging for MRT tunnels and piling our land with buildings of ever increasing height, I just have this sinking feeling that Singapore is gonna sink into the deep blue sea one day…

Just wondering…LKY is known to have foresight and vision. When he implemented the “Two is Enough” policy, he must had foreseen Singapore’s population would grow exponentially and had doubts whether it would be sustainable, given Singapore’s small size. In fact, I believe he had some max population in mind so that everybody would have enough space to live comfortably, definitely not 7 million, in my view. My guess is maybe 4-5 million max (if I remembered correctly what I read some time back).
With our overly ambitious new generation of politicians who seem to put economic growth above everything else, I sure hope the well being of us citizens are not being sacrificed in the process to fulfill their ambitious KPIs to make Singapore world class or No.1 in everything.
I don’t think LKY’s intention is for us to live in a city like Hong Kong or Tokyo, extremely crowded and with concrete jungles all around. That’s why his policy of planting trees to provide greenery all around us and his measures to prevent population from growing too fast in the early days.
Unfortunately along the way, priorities have shifted and I do not know whether Singapore will be able to produce another visionary leader to take us forward in the coming decades. -
sleepy:
When I see so many people at the supermarket, I really HAVE difficulty breathing...if not bcos of grocery, I would not want to leave the house. Why do they insist to squeeze so many people into such a tiny plot of land?
Quality of air affected. Tried breathing in a jam packed mrt cabin or lift?
Nowsaday I don't even feel like leaving the house.
Can't even walk without bumping into another sweaty person
3-4 million of people then was comfortable...when I have a trolley full of supermarket bags, I have to wait for the lift only to have problems breathing in a lift filled with carbon dioxide. -
our pap need alot more new citizens before the next GE

Depressing to know there are more foreigners than true blue singaporeans.

:rotflmao: You made my day :imcool:
And, NO, definitely not ready for 7m, I mean the infrastructures  -
If tiny red dot has 7 million people, it will be depressing. People everywhere. Do we really have to reach that stage?

I used to enjoy taking a bus ride along the stretch of road along tengah air base. It is a big patch of fresh greeneries that is almost extinct in Singapore…but slowly, the Home Team has their headquarters shifted there…some camps moved there also…and soon…according to plan, a new big housing estate called Tengah housing estate will emerge…if you go to google map, you will get what i mean…is really a big piece of land presently still filled with green trees. the size is almost the entire amk, bishan, TPY combined…huge and will be gone soon and yes…by that time, every corner of Singapore will be crowded all the time.

I totally understand what you mean.
I used to live around there too. Lots of green and space. Hard to find nowadays. Going forward, even more rare.
