My feedback is genuine. It was what we experienced. We are not competitor. You can check my postings. When I am happy with certain centre, I also shared. But I feel that my $1100 with Xuelin is a waste.

ngl2010,
Thank you for sharing… I find their branch at Katong112 extremely quiet… Even the holiday program was unsuccessful due to lack of participants. The review for the school was so fantastic in the earlier pages, tempting me to want to try them out. Then, I start to see the not-so-good comments… -

We enrolled in Xuelin due to the postings here that said they are good. After we attended 2 terms and a holiday programme (which luckily they refunded our money after we complained on the first day that they shortchanged the hours), we were very disappointed of the quality. We are wondering whether the forummers posting good reviews on Xuelin are the centre themselves.....ngl2010,

This is the reason why parents here are not willing to share anymore. If I see a Ctr that is good for my dc and recommend it, it doesn’t mean that it’s 100% suitable for yours. You have to make your own judgement, but stop accusing others of impersonation just bcos they want to share (what to them) is really a good thing.
Can?
Or are we only allowed to share if we’re 100% sure a Ctr is suited to 99.9999% of the population? It’s bcos of pple like you that we’re not sharing anymore. Happy? -

There are many reasons parents don't want to share anymore. Not necessarily the reason you mentioned. Some people do not want to share in case their children lose out in PSLE. You can read in some threads about such cases. I have also met some parents that are like that. Please do not generalise. This is the reason why parents here are not willing to share anymore. The reason I suspected some postings are not genuine is because of the number of postings the forummer posted. A few postings and one of them is recommending a centre or a tutor? Suspicious...
I am happy to share the centre or tutor that I think is good. I stand by what I believe. A teacher or a centre is not perfect. Nobody is. If I can help other parents, why not? -
We attended the katong holiday prog - think 4 or 5 kids in the p4 writing class (1 p3 boy joined too as not enough p3s). I also signed up based on the good reviews here … But disappointed after the holiday program.

I was rather disappointed when the holiday program couldn’t kickoff then… After hearing the feedback, I guess it wasn’t a loss… esp when i do not have the spare cash to burn.
I think there are other reasons why people don’t share…
I am especially wary when someone logged in only to share very positive feedback for a particular centre… There is one such forumer who only log in solely to praise a particular centre in several threads and does not participate in any other discussions. -
DS Chinese compositions have always been average but never above average in school. Recent school results seem to have worsen. However, he always has above average score in Xuelin since last year. There seems to be quite a gap in expectation between school and the centre. This is a strategy to motivate a student? Also, this year, we notice quite a difference in standards among the students in a class as there is no differentiation between higher Chinese and normal Chinese. Looks like time to make a decision… …

Guess I'm not the only one. Normally I try to reserve my judgement but after trying the centre for a year, think it's time to search for another centre.
The standard is really dropping & my child has difficulty catching up with his peers. My child shared it's wasting his time there & the materials are not really helpful. Pace is slow & centre is lacking of manpower. If teacher is giving oral test outside the classroom, it's 'fun time' for the students. Materials from colour also become black & White.
Did not see lady boss for quite some time. Think she's not aware that the centre is going down soon. :?:pek.taxi:

Right or wrong choice, sigh... It's always so difficult to know in the beginning!
I have been searching around for a chinese tuition for my P4 girl for quite some time and also read the threads in this forum and finally decided to send her to Xuelin at the beginning of this year after considering both the good and not so good comments about all the well known centres and also through word of mouth feedback from friends.
The recent threads on Xuelin has now made me uneasy if I had sent my
girl to the right place. But to be fair, so far I have not encountered any of the negative opinions at this centres except that it is difficult to speak to their administrator at times.
Her teacher seems to be very dedicated and pro-active and had given me
detailed updates regarding her progress despite her being there for only 4 lessons. Also I have been constantly reviewing the tuition materials that she had been receiving and they seem to be of quite a high standard especially their compositions.
At this point in time, I will just keep an open mind and get my girl to feedback to me what she has learnt in class after each lesson and also see her SA1 result to see if I should pull her out.
Will monitor closely and share her progress with you all later. :rahrah:
