MMM:
If transportation company de-privatized (anyway the govt is paying for new buses), which means that no need to earn profit, would the current profit earning be enough to cover the increase in the drivers' salary? Anybody can roughly calculate?

Another that LTK mentioned last night (which dh has always been saying to me) is also those gas company. With privatisation, the govt will no longer have control if the private sector wants to increase the charges, etc... maybe these are some of the critical areas that should not be privatise in the first place ?

It is not as straightforward as LTK say.

A part of the profits of these 'privatised' public transport/utitilities/landlord companies go to the Govt via Temasek etc if these remain GLCs. These dividends then become part of the Govt revenue, which is then spent on whatever govt needs to spend money on. It is not as though all these profits go into some black hole.

If there is no more profit, govt revenue will drop accordingly. Then govt will have to look for money somewhere else (like tax!) or have to cut down on govt spending.

Ultimately, yang mao chu zhai yang sheng shang. The real question is not whether 'privatisation' of these public services is good or not. The real question is how to balance the $$$ with the public service.

Of course, other parts of the profit that does not go to Temasek goes somewhere else, like local and foreign investors, and CEO and other executive pay...
You taking up the cudgels today pirate? Voices of reason don't resonate here.
So how now? Shall we have one from each educational background and training to make up GRC instead? And must include scholars and non-scholars?

If PAP team, must have some non-scholar, even non-graduate type in the GRC team.
But if WP team, must have some top of GEP cohort super elite type.
And if non WP opposition team, any type also no use. šŸ¦†

tangugu..d oppo will hv to take 2nd pick or less for these.
if u observe carefully d high fliers such as CCS, KPK with 'less privileged' backgrounds, u will notice d MIWs track them fr young n win them over to their side.
Sometimes MIW miss some, especially if they are not in the SAF, civil service or government service type.

But I take that back about PAP team must have some non scholar even non graduate type. If they have a non scholar non graduate type people will say, \"Wah leow! This kind of thing also can be PAP candidate. They really run out of talent izzit?\" So, either way also :slapshead:

An elite on the PAP ticket is a selfish, elitist SOB out to oppress the hapless masses. On the other hand, an elite on a WP ticket is a compassionate person who his caring enough to leave the comfort of his/her GCB to listen to the piteous ( šŸ˜‰ ) cries of the deprived masses. How the MIW PA... uhm I mean PR department allow this to happen I have no idea. :stupid: They should fire somebody.

The reports about him didn't orginate from TRE. They were \"unearthed\" from the old Straits Times archives. šŸ˜‰ According to them, CCS grew up in a single-parent family. His mum was a factory worker who earned $500 a month.

Agreed MIWs will miss some.
However, if wan does well n rise to prominence later in life, its a certainty wan will be on MIWs radar.
Hv seen it happening.

But its only sensible for any party to hv different types to suit different environments.
MIWs Ang Mong Seng n Ong Ah Heng r examples.

OK.
me thot u were going in d direction of d speculation abt him being related to u know who.
in my mind when me said dat, it was 'less privilege' in comparison with MIWs like TCH, TT etc.

concern2:

Oh my! šŸ˜“ Just got back from the rally! It's real. I was standing by the side so I don't get sardined, but when I looked back at 9 plus, even the grass patch behind me was filled up this time. See the two rows at the back? That's where the metal boards are placed, and there's another group on the harmony square next to the temples which you can't see clearly in the dim light. They're all filled. Even New Year with fireworks you don't get this kind of crowd. It was unbelievable.

On my way back, saw some guys in RI uniform hanging around. It was kind of dark couldn't tell who they were from afar.

There's the road that u can't see too...

There's someone shouting \"worker's party\" downstairs now.
wat r RI boys doing there at dat hour?
u sure u r not mistaken since u couldn't see very well fr afar?

MIWs shifted into higher gear a couple of days ago
after \"This is me\" KPK brushed off dat gung-ho remark by saying he was only joking. šŸ˜†
Other MPs in white fanned out to help him in d neighbourhood.
Cld it be d whole neighbourhood was at WP rally on Wed night?
When they found nobody home, they also joined in d crowd, but stood afar?
