      octoberbaby:
What exam is E2K? organised by NUS high? ACS? RGS? or RI? It is science?

Hi octoberbaby, I've attached the website with info on its origins. http://www.thecije.org/programs/program.asp?id=11

I've also copied the description from one of the school's website.

Quote : The Gifted Education Branch, MOE, has been working with our school in an enrichment programme to cater to high-ability learners in Science in primary schools since 2009. This programme, known as the Excellence 2000 (E2K) Science Programme, is based on a curriculum for talented students in Israel. The instructional methodology and materials are designed to be relevant to the learners’ lives, with a strong focus on process and thinking skills in Science. They are aimed at stimulating curiosity and developing abilities to study phenomena and their possible causes. Through the programme, we want to motivate the learners to be confident and independent researchers in their own right.

Hope the above information helps. πŸ˜„

Dd sch has external vendors teaching MO. She loved MO and came home showing me \"cool tricks\". She and her friends liked the teacher so much that they all went out with their MO teacher for tea during the Dec hols.

She was not selected for E2K. Only students who did well in Sc were asked to go. Feedback fr her friends went was that its very hard.
Great that your dd has a good MO trainer. I hv heard of MO trainers who can only teach based on their answer sheet, n cannot handle questions thrown by the students :faint:

        E2K - I wonder what is meant by \"very hard\"

Any parents with kids attending Maths Olympaid or E2K training? Can share your opinions/advice regarding the programs? My kid is offered both but can only choose one.

            TIA

DD enjoys E2K as the experiments conducted are always so fun. This year, they will be attending a few sessions of Little Professor on top of their weekly E2K sessions. Little Professor is conducted out of the school and DD can't wait for the first session. πŸ˜‰

Thanks for the link and your feedback. Sounds like alot of fun. I know they organises competition for the trainees. Are all schools expected to participate?

Just this week, they were asked to create their own Wind Cars (if I remember the name correctly). They had to wreck their brains to decide which material is best for the car body and wheels. DD told me they also had to decide on the most ideal size/measurement for the wheels, in order for the car to move the fastest. I was so impressed! Told her to take a picture of the completed car next week. πŸ˜‰

I'm not too sure if all schools are expected to participate in the various competitions but if your DS's school participates, I would encourage the child to join coz it's really good exposure, and most importantly, really fun.

Wow, sounds like a lot of research work to be done on automobile construction!! and to be handed in by next week :yikes:

Can post the pic of the completed car, when available?

It's group work (groups of 4) and everything was done in school and the girls had to make decisions there and then.

Sure, no problem. Will post the picture if DD remembers to take a picture of it. DD can be very forgetful sometimes. πŸ˜‰

                        Wow, that's good! :rahrah:

By the way, just curious, is E2K offered at Pri 5 in your DD's school? I thought it is usually offered at Pri 4?
