I miss the twin tubs semi auto Sanyo washing machine my mom had in the 80s.

Slim take up less space, and the best part is my mom can sort out those that she only want to wash but not to spin. The good old days.

I am going to buy a washing machine but not sure to get a front load or a Top load machine. Which is better a top load or a front load one?

Can anyone advise which brand is better for a front load machine.

Not sure what brand is good but I can recommend a place with better price, PariSilk at Holland Village, Lorong Mambong. But the shopping experience won't be as good as those big chain marts cos the space there is kind of cramp, but their price is one of the lowest, service is good and delivery is puncture.

This kind is good for folks like my parents. The current models are just to complicated for them. The twin tubs are very intuitive for my mum. She can operate even without guidance from us.

Oh really ar, 70s already have single drum oneS? I didn't know, I thought only twin tubs were available until 90s... We bought our first washer in the mid 80s, when my brothers were enlisted. Then, army uniforms still needed to starch (yah lor, that kind)... We bought a washer so that it could help to spin dry the uniforms and shortened the drying time.

But we were living on very tight budget then. I wouldn't be surprised if we bought something which was outdated, even at that time... But that washer served my mum well. It was good and working fine for close to 25 years. It just died on my mum afewyears back. A replacement was bought. And guess what? The new one is still a twin tub! :rotflmao:

Twin tubs is a reinvention from the single drum lar, innovative I would say, some may not want the entire load of laundry spin-dry mah. And you can use the wash function at one drum and at the same time spin dry another load at the other drum, cool!

Where did you see it, by the way? After such a long time and it is still surviving the competition, I am amazed!

Personally I prefer top load if the space of wash area is allowable, feeling kind of insecure with the front load after a friend's bad experience years back, her laundry got stuck inside for a good two days, when the repair men pried it open, it was a big mess dirty soap water flooding her tiny wash area. The hilarious part was the repair guys told her if it really koyak when it's fully loaded with laundry and water, with that kind of weight nobody is willing to help her to dispose of the set :rotflmao:


But that was many years ago, I believe things must have improved.

Apparently, things are still the same. i had 1st hand experience. But learning from all the experienced mummy here, I cleared up everything before letting the repair man to release the water.

The repair technician who came in to help out was very helpful. They are from LG. I think the after sales service is very important. It determines if I would purchase their products again

I bought a LG frontloader washer-dryer Combo WD14331AD in 2010.


It died a few days ago. It is out of warranty.

When the service technician finally came (1.5 hr late), he told me they have no spare parts & I may have to wait 2 or more weeks for it!
Repairs will cost $235.

I'm lodging a complaint with LG.

I hv the same one bought in January 2008 and still going strrong
maybe because i wash only 2x a week most of the time and rarely use the dryer, but when i wash i tend to overload thats why i can wash only 2x a week

I think a combo machine generally will last about half of the non combo (the one without dryer) if u use both the washer and the dryer regularly. But if u use mostly the washer and the dryer rarely (for emergency only) it may last more than 5yrs like mine. If u dont need the dryer its cheaper to buy washer only.

I hv used top load for at least 10yrs and got tired of spoiled clothes, so i switched to frontload when my top load died 5yrs ago.. the good thing abt topload is u can add clothe in the middle of washing lol... i like the frontload as it does not spoil our clothes and it save water (this LG one use little water) but not sure abt electricity usage.. u can choose the short cycle one and the one without warm water.. but i like the option of warm water especially for bed sheet and towel as it get rid of smell n oil..

My LG top load is going to die on me soon.. its lasted abt 10yrs. I need one urgently and still deciding on top load and front load.


Any recommendations on Samsung and Electrolux? I think I will go for top load since electricity is more expensive than water.. need to get a low stub powder and cannot add on last min wash :oops:
