Many challenges ahead for new WP MP.

Lots of work to be done..most importantly she will be able to speak out for the man (women) on the street. In short, :rahrah:
In the past, even with a reasonably friendly environment, the PAP struggles to hold on to SMCs in bye elections. My guess is that WP will take PE easily.

        Told ya!

Hi 3Boys! Ya, Dh mentioned this to me before, but I didn't want to raise my hopes up. So this is the By-election effect, eh?
I believe so. Obviously, I have somewhat mixed feelings, but I think this is a necessary to move the political process forward in Singapore, even if I disagree with a lot of the criticism leveled at the PAP.

Congrats to LtK and the WP for building such a great team and brand, and LLL of course, for her pluck and energy!

After the result my neighbour never stop singing this -

          Tell Laura I love her
          Tell Laura I need her
          Tell Laura not to cry
My love for her will never die

As for George Yeo, he is now promoting qigong.
This song seems look relevant to this whole election saga.

Indeed! :salute: They have raised the standards of the oppositions, and can see that our people are now getting more politically savvy, and willing to move away from status quo. It is a good sign - even if this is just a by-election! Now, this will go down in history not just as a by-election, but THE by-election!\\

\"With the victory, she becomes the first woman opposition party candidate to have won a single member constituency since 1965. History too, for the Workers' Party, as it captures another constituency from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP).\" - online citizen

To be frank, it had never occurred to me that PE was still under the Pasir-Ris Punggol Town Council even though we were already an SMC!!

\"What of the future? Is Punggol East an aberration or the harbinger of things to come?

I think it is the latter. Punggol East has a demographic profile of the future: voters are younger and better-off than the national average. It is solidly middle-class. Future elections will be full of people who think and vote like those at Punggol East. Hougang in this respect was very different: an older, working class estate that has always been a WP stronghold. I said then that Hougang voters spoke only for themselves. But Punggol East goes further, and might be a signal of future political battles.\"

An MP primary role is the people’s representative… A minister’s role is to help run the country.

Hence, we need a highly qualified person to be a minister… but not necessarily for an MP.

It is more import for an MP to be someone with empathy and compassion, and not qualifications…

Seems that the pple have started to realise this…

Maybe PAP would have won if they nominated George Yeo. But he is retired, right?

He probably won't take that risk. If fail again really got no face left.
