      Hi,

Any idea where can I get those big Chinese 字卡 our teachers used in our days?
You can make it by yourself. I make Chinese word cards to revise with my child. Her kindergarten teacher provides a list of Chinese words that she needs to know how to read. Type in the Chinese words (font depends on your own preference), print on coloured or white paper and laminate. Hope it helps you. In local kindergartens or childcare centres, the Chinese teachers will make their own word cards.

Shall I be worried? My child still struggling to spell to twenty, though he can read fairly well and probably if have to spell phonetically( he's rather reluctant). The emphasis of his school is less academic as compared to spore. They don't give out spelling lists etc. By the time he reaches home(after3), there's little time left to do much. Thinking of focusing to familiarise him with sing dollars and coins only. Is ability to spell etc number words necessary?

It's not a must to know how to spell number words till twenty but it would be good to expose the child to it. Recognizing the number words and understanding its numerical representation is as important as the ability to match the number of objects to the value of the number or number words. Exposing the child to real money will be a good experience. Children develop at their own pace and before you knew it, your child would have mastered what you want the child to know and remember. All parents are to be praised for good efforts on working with their children.

ds will have pocket money in coins.

I'm not doing much with ds now. His kindy is preparing him for P1.

He's able to read, count and spell, I think he will be ok in P1. I just hope he can sit still and not get into too much trouble LOL.

The ds also occasionally buys food but just wait there for what ever change he gets, totally blur 🙂 we practice spore$ at home but still not picking up. Worst case scenario, I'll packed food for recess.

His handwriting is another matter, microscopic and cursive. I hope his p1 teachers will be understanding....
