... getting worried after reading what you all are preparing your kids on chinese and writting ... must work harder !

      dear 2014 P1 parents,

you may buy this P1 Chinese textbook / workbook.
with this, can start preparing your 2007 golden pig/ piglet for tingxie, alongside with hypy.

      i) if Higher Chinese
      小学高级华文课本一年级 1A(上册)
      小学高级华文课本一年级 1B(下 册)

      ii) if Normal Chinese
      小学 华文课本一年级 1A(上册)
      小学 华文课本一年级 1B(下 册)

      (scroll down, to see picture)

      a)
1st: ask yr child to read aloud each word.
test if child able to recognize the character first (without the aid of any hypy)

      example (tingxie test 1)
each spelling session has 10 words for tingxie.

      一 五 鱼 雨

      我

      鸦 蛙 窝 牙

      袜

      b)
2nd: ask your child to fill in the hypy correct tone, beside each character.

      一 yi

      五 wu

      鱼 yu

      雨 yu

      我 wo

      鸦 ya

      蛙 wa

      窝 wo

      牙 ya

      袜 wa

      c)
3rd: ask your child to write out both the Chinese word, + hypy tone beside it( side by side).

      note:-
those K2 kids who attend Tien Hsia (TH) - usually TH lao shi will give about 2 or 3 words for tingxie. When they go P1, TH then increase dosage - to around 6 words tingxie.

but in P1 primary school(s), each tingxie session is ... 10 words.

There’s not much difference bet normal and higher Chi in P1. If your child’s school is not SAP or does not offer Higher Chi in P1 but your child is not adverse to Chi, and not going for Chi tuition or enrichment then buy Higher Chi assessment bks if you buy such bks.

My dd1 didn't have tingxie when she was in K2 and she didn't have any issue with tingxie in P1. She does not have Chi enrichment too. But we do speaks Mandarin at home.

My ds have tingxie when he was in K1 and K2, we speak minimal Mandarin at home n he did not attend any enrichment classes.. but he still have prob with tingxie during P1, now slightly better.. thus i feel it is all based on individual child..

U may juz start preparing her like what phtthp suggested earlier. 😉

do not rely everything 100% on the kindergarten, to prepare your child for P1 Chinese.
You need to do your part too, to help your child at home.

because some kindy don't prepare kids for P1 Chinese well.
And when your child enter P1 - you regret, wished that you'd prepared him / her earlier for this, for that. By then, you're under stress because of time constraint.
