I didn't say that you are amoral because you support the party. Nowhere in my post did I assume that. I just said it's a concern that people don't care what their leaders do as long as their quality of life is improved. That to me is ... warped? It's like I don't care how my husband brings home the bread as long as it's money. He can rob and kill for all I care. I just want my comfort and that's what matters.
The arrogance to presume that if one were supportive of the g'ment, that one is amoral.
So you take the Teo Soh Lung approach then. Socialist, flat society.
Fine, I can understand that. I feel that way too, society can be more flat. But I generally am not an envious person, Ferraris and Les Amis are a bit uncool.
There is a difference between studying history and being stuck in it.
Politics was dirty business then, it was a shameful period. BUT, it was a different time and a different set of people.
Sons pay for the sins of their fathers, that's what's happening.
I only mentioned the Socialis for the sake of making you realise that you are not the only one who knows about the history. I don't know who Teo Soh Lung is and you are the one who says society is flat. They may call themselves Socialis, but carrying the ideals out is another matter. Just like 'meritocracy' and 'democracy' - I don't buy the talk that we really are.
I am not an envious person. I don't care if the ministers dine fine. Just don't tell me what I have is also first-class when you don't even want it. You mean what is dirty to you is fine for me? Ok, if it's so hard to understand - it's probably the attitude that I detest. -
rains:
Sounds pretty disgruntled to me. I'm not even sure what you are even griping at now, with your latest post, you have vacillated between the g'ment not serving the people, to now, the g'ment serving the people, but using nefarious means. Which is it?
I am not an envious person. I don't care if the ministers dine fine. Just don't tell me what I have is also first-class when you don't even want it. You mean what is dirty to you is fine for me? Ok, if it's so hard to understand - it's probably the attitude that I detest.
The g'ment didn't swindle or embezzle, they did not conduct a war of aggression against another nation, they did not abuse and exploit aboriginals.
Yes, they have a hard nosed economic policy, which fills the coffers.
Is that a crime?
You have a mighty big chip on your shoulder, and you don't even realise it.
If you have an issue with people telling you to accept one thing, but they accepting another, please don't be a child to your parents, since they will be telling you to study, whilst they are out gardening or reading the papers. Please don't work in any kind of company, since the boss will be telling you you are getting what you deserve whilst he may be taking double your pay.
It's a funny axe you are grinding. If indeed you aren't the envious type, one wonders why all the examples you've brought up till now are material ones........on one hand you don't care where people dine, on the other hand you get insulted...... :? -
Where will WP house Punggol East town council?
(source: http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/where-will-wp-house-punggol-east-town-council)
Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council can only vacate office when it finds an alternative site
SINGAPORE — The Workers’ Party (WP) may need to look for an alternative site to locate its town council office in Punggol East, because the existing town council office in the constituency — at Block 156A, Rivervale Crescent — will continue to be used by the People’s Action Party (PAP)-run Pasir Ris-Punggol town council for at least another six months while the ruling party looks for another site of its own.
According to Pasir Ris-Punggol town council Chairman Zainal Sapari, this is because the town council — which used to serve the residents of both Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and the Punggol East single seat ward when it was helmed by the PAP, would still need at least two offices to serve the residents of the GRC, as is the case with other GRCs.
Mr Zainal, nevertheless, said his town council will vacate its Rivervale Crescent office once it is able to find an alternate site in Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and the search will take “at least six months”.
A check by TODAY showed that town councils which are managing GRCs have at least two offices. Apart from its Rivervale Crescent office, Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council has another office at Blk 577, Pasir Ris St 53. Mr Zainal explained that his town council has five years remaining on a 10-year lease for its Rivervale Crescent premises.
After his town council moves out, it would be up to the WP to write in to the Housing and Development Board (HDB) if the Opposition party is interested to take over the office, he said. The HDB did not respond to TODAY’s queries by press time. The WP also did not reply to this newspaper’s questions on the issue but party Chairman Sylvia Lim did say the WP expects to issue a statement on the town council takeover in the middle of the week.
Stressing that the handover of the Punggol East ward will be “smooth”, Mr Zainal cited the matter as one of two issues — the other is the transfer of town council funds — that have to be discussed with the WP.
He said that he had been in touch with Ms Lim on the matter. A meeting has been planned “very soon” to agree on a timeline and work processes of the handover, he added.
He also assured that the town council funds will be allocated back to Punggol East Town Council “in a transparent way”, as items such as the operating fund is calculated based on per unit household.
Institute of Policy Studies’ Senior Research Fellow Gillian Koh reiterated that protocols and standard operating procedures have to be established for “the transition from one MP (Member of Parliament) to another, or to an Opposition MP and the most important thing is that (the parties) realise that we are in a new territory and they have to figure out how to manage it better”.
Singapore Management University School of Law’s Assistant Professor and Nominated Member of Parliament Eugene Tan added: “Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council will have to be careful not to take on unnecessary bad publicity as they could be seen as stonewalling the WP … They have had enough bad press over the AIM (Action Information Management) issue and the PAP can do without another issue that can generate as much bad press.”
Mr Zainal, who had a meeting with town council staff yesterday, also said that the employees who were looking after the Punggol East ward — there are fewer than 10 of them — will be absorbed by the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council’s managing agent, E M Services. The WP is expected to appoint its own managing agent.
______________
:? Punggol East SMC still under GRC of Pasir-Ris Punggol...
:scratchhead: The 2 \"GRC offices\" has one in an SMC, not both within their own GRC town??
:? If sharing resources, why need to break up into SMC in the first place?
\"...town council funds will be allocated back to Punggol East Town Council “in a transparent way”, as items such as the operating fund is calculated based on per unit household.\" ----Not based on how much residents of Punggol East contributed meh??? You mean all funds pooled into Pasir-Ris-Punggol GRC liao, then now have to sift out another set of funds for Punggol East Town Council (which did not exist before) based on per unit household? :scratchhead: I don't get it. -
Also,
Town Council office paid by PAP or paid by residents? -
