What is wrong (or not wrong!) with the PAP nowadays?

3Boys:
Did he says anything about the time frame? One battle? Five Years?
Napoleon once said, \"I'd rather have a lucky general than a good one.\"pirate:
If TH makes 10 calls and loses money on 3 and makes money on 7, and turns in a good profit overall, that is considered good. It is unrealistic to expect every call to be good and every investment to be profitable. Somebody who can do that will not be working for any fund, he will be investing his only money and becoming a billionaire.
But if one of the bad calls results not from market conditions, but was due to sloppy due diligence, then punishment for that is warranted. Likewise, if one of the good calls resulted from pure dumb luck despite bad analysis or due diligence, no kudos is warranted.
He also did say, \"In politics, stupidity is not a handicap.\"
Stupidity is not a handicap, did stupidity cause him his life?
Me no respect for Napoleon. -
Nebbermind:
Of course have revenue, so do other companies. Why then do they go to the capital markets to raise funds? But it's not a free lunch for investors.
How come you say until like these transport coys donch have any revenue one?! :scratchhead:3Boys:
They'd rather the operations be paid for out of taxpayers pockets than investors pockets.
limlim, what is the first step before people get return on the investment?
Take a guess?
Put your hard earned money down first!
So that SMRT can pay the drivers, pay the electricity bills, the cleaners, with INVESTORS money, which WE as the commuter, make use of. Otherwise, TAXPAYERS pay...
After that, taken the risk, because SMRT can always collapse, you MAY get 4-5% return.......
Such a good deal meh?
You just don't understand. -

Already got GST ya.. and, if wanna earn more from tourist can issue Ezlink card tied to NRIC for locals and let them travel at cheaper rates. It can be done, just whether they want to.limlim:
Why not just increase the income tax than? much simpler.. top earners pay more..
How is it simpler? Tourists don't pay income tax leh. Neither do FDWs. :scratchhead:limlim:
That's why they have to buy COE and pay ERP. So, nothing wrong with that going up, right? :evil:Those who can afford to pay? If they can well afford, they'll be driving cars or take taxis, not take public transport and squeeze!
Anyways, PMETs can :censored: afford to pay a couple of dollars to travel to work, and another couple of dollars back.
If transport service can be improved, actually spending a bit more of fares is not an issue. But if fares goes up and service standard drops, that is not very acceptable.. -
limlim:
So, if privatised profit-making can deliver better service at lower fares, acceptable to you? Or you still cannot swallow the for-profit part?

Like you said, can be done. All it needs is proper channeling and push from the regulators. But I would rather the transport assistance be given primarily to low to lower-middle income families, children and old folks. Like you say, can have Ezlink cards tied to NRIC.Already got GST ya.. and, if wanna earn more from tourist can issue Ezlink card tied to NRIC for locals and let them travel at cheaper rates. If fares go up and service standard drops, it's a regulator problem. Skip over the public transport companies and just slap the transport minister. Fair?
Whether nationalized or not is not the issue. -

Actually, I feel the transport fares is still acceptable..

I believe the reason why pple make noise is bcoz the service is not up to par.. frequent breakdowns, irregular bus timings etc..
In the past I couldn't be bothered with how much profits they made.. but when service standards drop and they use rising costs as excuse etc.. that is when pple start to look at their profits to expose their lies.
If service is good and fares acceptable, no issue at all.. I don't care whether it is private company or not.. Just that from observation, seems that good service with low fares doesn't associate closely with a private company with monopoly. -
legacy? I don’t think so…
The leaders nowaday have the worst from both world.
The old leaders can be seen as repressive but at least they are strong and decisive. The new leader arrive at questionable policies but at the same time is weak and undecisive. -

I feel that these MIW ....are highly educated....
Only Plan and Plan ....so that during Year End Assessment , they will get A in their Performance....
Very disappointed with these new bunch of MIW.... -
I think this bunch of MIW , being smart is taking a short cut to make and present themselves to look good....
Because results has showed that opening Flood Gate , will bring in more revenues , collect more tax....
So this bunch of MIW , will continue to open the Flood Gate so to receive big salary and bonus....
They have no new ideas....
Pay this bunch of MIW million of dollars ...just open Flood Gate....
So what ! Are they bother that the common people below are suffering???.... :gloomy: -
I do not think that our current PAP are weak and indecisive, but rather that the electorate now have higher demands and expectations, as we are better educated and informed. Rightly, we question their policies and expect them to present their arguments for implementing the policy. However, I do think that they mostly present their side of the argument, without really acknowledging that we citizens really do have grievances and doubts about their policies.
Having said that, I do think that the party is trying to engage Singaporeans via Our Singapore Conversation, Reach, etc … Sometimes , I think it’s we, the ave Joe, who does not engage with our fellow Singaporeans outside our familiar circle. Yes, we rant and rave on KSP and other online forums … But other segments of society do not go to online forums to air their views. And sometimes I think that the views expressed and the way views are expressed on online forums are vastly different from that in a face to face conversation. Perhaps it’s the absence of body language.
