A quick check, the answer is 80 stickers for Stephanie.

you can work backwards .. start from the end...

In the end, Stephanie had 40 more stickers than Jolene
Jolene --> (88-40)/2 = 24 (*this represents 1/2 of what Jolene had before she gave to Stephanie)
Stephanie --> 24 + 40 = 64

Before Jolene gave half to Stephanie
Jolene --> 24 + 24 = 48
Stephanie --> 64 - 24 = 40 (this represents 1/2 of what Stephanie had at first)

At first, Stephanie --> 40 + 40 = 80

12+2=14
14/2=7
7+12=19
7*3=21
21-2=19
19*19=361....

It helps to draw a simple sketch.

Length of rectangle ----- 3u

Breadth of rectangle ------ 1u

After its breadth is lengthened by 12cm and its length is shortened by 2cm, it will form a square.

3u – 2 ------- 1u + 12

2u ------- 14

1u ------- 7

Side of square --------12+7 ------- 19

From here, you may work out the area (19*19).
