I remember LKY was against having 6.5 million people in Singapore. Too bad now it is hard to hope that he can influence the current govt. He was also against having casinos here. Can we have him back to support our opinion in this 7 million people thingy? 😒

he got say dont want 6.5 million? what context?

He said it in 2008 when govt in 2007 wants to increase the population to 6.5 million in 40-50 years time. I guess now the government wants to increase the population faster and even more :faint:

 Perhpas they are 'projecting' opposition will take over parliament by then so can conveniently leave the ηƒ‚ζ‘Šε to new parliament by 2030

If the Singapore government is looking at increasing the population of Singapore and increasing the dismal birthrate, they should take a good look at the abortion laws in Singapore.

Now the situation is drastically different and Singapore desperately needs more babies. We should look at ways to help more women keep their unborn babies and not abort them. Since Singaporeans often pick up new habits through educational campaigns (think of the 'courtesy campaign' for eg., and the 'please flush the loo' campaign) There needs to be some educational directive that helps women understand how precious every life is. And I'm not kidding when I say that we should start an 'Every Baby is Precious' campaign.

I agree 100% that more should be done to 1) Prevent unwanted pregnancies, 2) Encourage/Help women who are pregnant but cannot for whatever reason keep their babies, carry to term and not abort.

            +100% agree..

Can go for adoption mah.... every baby is precious to Singapore..[/quote]yeah totally agree with this. wrote in on this when Chan Chun Sing was asking for suggestions... but for some reason they are skirting this issue.

 Out of the 6.5mil, about 3mil are non singaporeans. These are the ones that they will keep 'renewing' base on productive age. At the same time πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ that the other 3mil+ reproduce enough to replace themselves.

Singapore is a largely Asian society with traditional Asian values. It would be difficult to ask some parents to look after other people's kids unless forced by circumstances such as chronic infertility or sperm And egg got mixed up in test tube. In essence we are not ang moh pie. :lightrod: Is Corrine back in Singapore by the way? :scratchhead:

I guess childless couples would be keen and they should have first priority to adopt.

Actually many are open and keen to adopt or take in foster children. You will be surprised by the numbers.

Not all. Cousin is childless. They spent lots of money on fertility treatment but were not successful. But they refused to adopt. Ironically, my cousin was adopted. A couple other relatives are childless, they too tried fertility treatment but refused to adopt. SIL too is childless, they have no intention to adopt either.

I have 2 of my own. Our plan was to have 3 or more but we were unsuccessful in our attempts. I toyed with the idea of adopting since there are many children out there in need of a good home. The idea was shot down by everyone close to me, DH included.

only thing is that some ppl feel that adopting within Sgp might lead to complications in future cos Sgp is so small, and it might be awkward if the mum wants the kid back, etc etc.

in the past, adoptions happened all the time, between neighbours. happened in my extended family, and to this date, blood relatives keep in touch closely. but that was then, and times have changed. those circumstances were more like, I already have 8 kids, I pass you the 9th since u cannot have kids and have more resources to give my number 9 is better life...
