Tragic accident at Tampinese - pls wear cycling helmets!

thks for putting up this video, DH and i think that was likely the case, blind spot that caused this tragic. from what i saw from the scene, the truck stop only 2-3 metre from the traffic light junction, he is probably in a slow speed , when he turned, the boys are in the blind spot and the driver missed them..

Also, there is good software that have image recognition algorithms that can identify common things like pedestrians and cyclists. Can these be coupled to CCTV systems?

Everyone has a part to play. The respective authority can put up 1000 signs but if nobody want to take note of them, it is not going to work. The drivers can go slower, drive with eyes wide open and mindful, if the children are not taught about road safety and the dos and donts, how can we stop all these mishaps?


I had been scared green faced by tweens on their skateboards. They zipped out of no where and zoomed past my moving car as if my car was a phantom. I tell you, lucky my bladder control good.... I once stopped my car in the middle of the way and confronted the tween. I told him thatwhat he had done was so dangerous and I could just rammed into him as I didn't expect anyone cutting into my pathlike he did. Guess wat? He was so nonchalant that I thought I told him that today's weather was nice! :mad: :mad: :rant:

There was once when I made a right turn into another road in a housing estate (Lengkok Bahru), a teenager in school uniform was crossing the road without looking out for traffic.

Why, why, why?? Becos she was too busy looking into her handphone while crossing. When I honked at her, she stopped in the middle of the road momentarily, gave me a rude stare, looked into her handphone again and then continued to cross the road.

I was so angry that I had almost wanted to stop my car at the roadside to lambast her! Unfortunately, it was not safe to stop due to the narrow road.

I encounter that EVERYDAY! :slapshead: :slapshead:
People are so obsessed with their phones and devices, when their ears hear the beeping sound they started crossing the road, they do not even take a glance at the traffic, totally oblivious to the surrounding!

Just yesterday I saw a cyclist texting away while cycling passed a zebra crossing and couldn't stop in time, ended up ramming himself into the lamp post! To date I yet to see any cyclist dismount from their bicycle when crossing the zebra/pedestrian crossing. :slapshead:

SINGAPORE - In the wake of the tragic accident which killed two young boys on Monday, another road accident involving a cyclist was reported on Wednesday.

According to the Shin Min Daily News, the accident between a bicycle and a motorcycle occurred yesterday evening at about 5.30pm around Bedok North Ave 3.

An eyewitness told the Chinese daily that she saw the motorcycle colliding with the bicycle.

The cyclist, believed to be a man in his 50s, as well as the male motorcyclist, who looked to be in his 20s, laid by the side of the road in pain after the collision. The wheels of the bicycle appeared to be badly mangled.

The motorcyclist was ferrying a 8-year-old boy riding pillion at the time. The boy was seen sitting on the pavement with a dazed expression, Shin Min reported.

The eyewitness said a crowd of about 20 on-lookers gathered, with 4 or 5 offering their assistance the two men who were injured.

According to the police, the two men were conveyed while conscious to the Changi General Hospital, while the boy was sent to KK Women's and Children's hospital.

Investigations are on-going.

Yes, using the mobile phones and crossing the road is such a common scenario with the youngsters nowadays.

In my opinion, those silly people who pay more attention on their phone then their path are still ok. They usually move slower than usual. Unlike those who skate or skateboard… Those who skateboard in particular move very fast and their movement is not very predictable when they want to "perform stunt".

If the laws are tighten against motorists, will there be laws against those pedestrains who cause the accidents? Sometimes, accidents may be a direct consequence of their wilful carelessness.

Those foolish people who SMS, talk on their phone or listen to blasting music with ear plugs while crossing the road are asking for trouble. They cross the road when least expected and as a motorist, it can be damn scary. When you honk at them, they look daggers at you :mad:

It is not possible to multi-task...too many factors involved. Concentration is just not there. I cannot cross the road while talking on the mobile bcos I still have to look out for cars...in case they beat the traffic. As a pedestrian, we cannot assume right of way all the time.
