Sec 1 is tough man...4x a week of staying back. Wednesday is the only 'early' day. He is yearning for CNY break...same here :imdrowning: helping him when he is in doubt...that's the most I can do. Working smart is crucial now...time is very tight everyday.

As for that party, he doesn't want to be reminded.
But to have to leave on such a sad note is something I wished had never happened...after 6 years in the school. It should be memorable.
It's unfortunate he had a FT who doesn't give a hoot about his students.

        Hey janet,

JRLam said the graduation party is for whole cohort level and P6ers were informed by the usual consent form leh. Is the one you're angry about the same one as what she stated? Surely not rite, am sure a reasonable person like you don't expect the sch to contact each and every single pupil to remind them to come for the party. :?

Can clarify further, so that current P6ers can take note mah. 😄

        JRLam:
Parents were informed about the party via the usual consent form, to indicate if the kid wants to attend or not, showed date, venue etc and asked for payment. It's a cohort thing. Not sure why Janet needs to inform teacher abt her son's interest to attend, maybe what she meant was they had indicated their interest to attend on the consent form. Then kid pay up and just turn up. Don't understand why need teacher to reply? There could be some misunderstanding.

          Hi FQW,

Let’s move on…don’t talk about it…aunty here needed to vent some stress.
This is not impt anymore…what is more impt is what I posted earlier about following closely what goes on in the school.

..Kids have a lot more energy than us. Let them learn some time management early. Much as I pity them at times, but it's good to push a little (gauge & judge for your own kids capacity) so that they can build some resilience. Dun want 'strawberries' to grow at home 😉 In my case, so far so good...

:goodpost: Agree on above. DS's school also encourage parents to let the kids stretch their boundaries. VP even shared the story of how the eagle help the eaglets to strength their wings by pushing them off the cliff and catching them just before they hit the ground. 😓

Last year ie. P6, on days with supplementary lessons which ends at 2pm+, ds will take a more substantial recess (at 10.30am). Some days, he brought a flask of hot soup and sip it at 12pm+ when teacher gave them 15mins break.

Compared to last year's routine in terms of meal/bed times and workload, he is still a \"shake leg\" mode now. Maybe when CCA and other commitment kicks in he will :imdrowning:

My DS told me the other day that he found out some of his classmates are 13 or 14 years old, and one girl is even 16 years old! (obviously they are from another country like Malaysia, Taiwan or China).

It surprises me that the age difference can be that big. I thought at most it would be 1 or 2 years. When it comes to exams and streaming at the end of the year, wonder whether it would be fair competition.

We are into week 4 since school began. Son said there was no honeymoon period…after hearing that 4 letter word almost every other day, he is immune to it…T-E-S-T. After last year’s PSLE journey, he seems more resilient to the tougher schedule now.

My DS is having a second camp since wed. This one they get to come home everyday for Sec 1s since they already camped over at the beginning of Jan. Happily playing.

School load is definitely way lesser than last year. Tests if there was any, are rather small ones like just 1 sheet of paper. This bit we are happy. It’s the meal breaks and timing that is disturbing.

If school stays this way, and end results for Olevels are ok. It would be great. PSLE in a brand school took out alot of DS’s childhood and hopefully we can put back more bonding time outside of schoolwork. My last 6 years of bonding with DS was mostly homework time. I don’t want to be remembered this way!

I suggest you do not set the wrong expectation for yourself and your child.

It is just the first month of Sec school life. It is still orientation and settling down period for all the Sec 1s. That's why your DS is having the 2nd camp in a month and the workload isn't very heavy because all the lessons and CCA have just started. Surely you can't expect the same for the next 4 years? Going forward, there won't be 2 camps in a month and there will be more homework and revision for exams, no less than what he had gone through in P6.

We all know that as the children grow older, the pace of learning gets faster, there is a jump in P5, Sec 1, Sec 3, and in JC1. It is fine, most kids can manage.

Hope your DS enjoys his Sec school life as it can be very enriching, if he doesn't start with the wrong expectation. As parents, we do what we can to support them and enjoy the process together.
