Thank you everybody for your advice. I feel conflicted. I am expecting my third child, and I really don’t want to have bad karma if because of my decision my maid lives her life in regret.

However I will not dare to let her touch my new-born baby since she is emotionally unbalanced. Right now she is showing a black face to my mum all the time, which my mum really cannot stand. And her work is getting shoddier and shoddier (guess I can’t blame her given her circumstances, but still…)

Quite clear that we cannot tahan her with us anymore. My dilemma now: Should I 1) Forget the loan, let her go back to Indon debt-free, and hire a new maid.
      2) Transfer her out to the agent and take a new maid under the contract. No loss to me. She becomes the agent’s problem. If it’s true that she really cannot work, the agent has to take the loss and send her back to Indon.

Seems like most are telling me that option 2) is best.

Chances are your maid doesn't want to work for you anymore is very great since you are expecting a third child. You should go for option 2 and let the agent handle her.

I had an ex-Indon maid who started showing signs of mental unstability on the 2nd day of work. Too homesick. Sent her back to agent on 3rd day as she cannot work. Kept crying.

She refused to transfer as all she wanted was is to go home. Agent had no choice but to send her back but not before making her sign something. Agent did not want to tell me what the document was.

The agent bore the repatriation fees and the living expenses pending her flight home (guess they were still trying to convince her to transfer). I only had to pay her salary for the 2-3 days that she was with me and her levy till she departed.

The pre-paid salary was transferred over to the replacement maid.

But I think a lot depends on your agent’s practices.

I see…so seems like if the maid really acts gila-gila and completely unable to work, the agent has no choice but to let her go home.

I will transfer her back to the agent, and give her some money to pay off the loan/cover medical cost. I would rather be taken for a fool (in case she is lying to me), than feel bad for the rest of my life in case she is telling the truth.

Thank you everybody for your input. That’s the beauty of this forum.

I know of a maid who insisted on going home. Her parents mortgaged their plantation to pay the agent. Then sent her back.

I think the document she signed is an IOU or some form of undertaking to repay the loan.

Agreed fully ! Did your new maid know that u are expecting your 3rd child b4 she come, ie u let agent know - household with 2kids + 1bb ?
Usually maid will say everything yes during interview, then later find that it is too much hardwork.
Go for option 2. Get a new maid. U cannot let your new born being taken care of maid who is not interested to work.

My previous maid make use of me to come over to SG, then <1mth, said she want to go back to agent as she only want to work for employer with 1 child.
During the 2mth waiting time for new maid, we suffer as she will only do what she want and what she like, ignore my 2 kids etc, sleeping as and when she like, concentrating on her face & hair :stupid:
She got her wish come true as she can interview her potential employer since she is here. We did not sent her back due to the loan.
Also it look like now is the maid's market as some need to desperate to get transfer maid...

I am not sure how trustworthy is she. I heard of many stories. So I dont believe your maid’s story. Now her attitude is poor (showing black face) and shoddy work.

Go for option 2. Return her to the agent and let them handle her. You can get a replacement and start a new chapter. Her outstanding loan can be used as part of the new loan for your new maid.

Dont give in to her soapy stories. Cannot send her home. You need to return her to your agent, otherwise all your money is gone.

Yeap, before she came over she knows I am expecting a 3rd child. She also knows that including her, there are two helpers in my home. I returned her to the agent and gave her some money. She doesn’t deserve it, but just in case she really needs it, at least I know that I have done something for her. My husband thinks I’m being dumb (he said I shouldn’t have given her any money at all because she is so lousy) but it’s just for my own peace of mind.

Talking of transfer maids, when I went down to agent’s I also interviewed one transfer maid. Wah…scary. Her side of the story is she sacked her expat employer coz she doesn’t like their dog. I wonder what the employer’s side of the story is? I thought expat families are generally quite easy-going. She must be quite something to piss them off.

Before this transfer maid worked for the expat employer, she also worked in Singapore. Left one employer because she can’t get along with the other two(!!) maids, and left another because she cannot get along with the grandma. I didn’t have to think twice about rejecting her. She has been at the maid’s dorm for one month already, I think everybody who interviewed her got scared off!
