Hi, can I check if parents of sec 1 students have managed to login to thr Learn@DHS PORTAL? based on the year 1 2013 booklet given during the briefing to parents, we can login to http:// learn.DHS.sg using student NRIC and password given but I couldn't login to the website. Anyone managed to login successfully? Thanks

Me and my mom managed to login a week ago. You have to click Parent's portal instead of school portal, I think. Try it with this link http://lms.asknlearn.com/dhs/ParentLogon.aspx

Yes in every school everywhere in singapore. And it's only half a subject, you choose an elective to go with it

Social studies in DHS is under ACE (Active Citizenry Education).....

ACE accounts for 20% of 1 of the humanities subject.
It covers deeper in depth than SS. There will be a group project, spread throughout the yr.

Active Citizenry Education (ACE)

Active Citizenry Education (ACE) at DHS aims to develop in our pupils the knowledge, skills and values that will enable them to become effective, responsible, thinking and participating citizens who can contribute positively in a globalised world. ACE is about actively engaging pupils in decision-making and making them think critically about their role in society and their potential as agents for change.

Year 3 ACE provides a platform for pupils to develop sense of belonging; rights and responsibilities and understand what the government does and how it upholds the law. Breaking away from studies conducted in a traditional academic setting, students are required to identify the needs of the society and propose solutions or changes to address a social issue. This allows students to explore not only their own rights and responsibilities but those of other citizens as well.

Year 4 ACE focuses on the key topic of Globalisation and encourages pupils to explore regional and global issues. The programme culminates in the Dunman Model United Nations Conference. The aim of this conference is for the students to produce, and vote upon, a UN Resolution (a document laying out what the UN is resolving to do) with regard to a particular issue.

Citizenship education involves a wide range of different elements of learning, including:

- knowledge and understanding: e.g. about topics such as nation and nationhood; roles, rights and responsibilities; governance and law, leadership, global trends and issues.

- skills and aptitudes: e.g. critical thinking, analysing information, expressing opinions, taking part in discussions and debates, negotiating, conflict resolution and participating in community action.

- values and dispositions: e.g. respect for justice, democracy and the rule of law, openness, tolerance, courage to defend a point of view, and a willingness to listen to, work with and stand up for others.

To be effective, ACE adopts a practice-oriented approach so that each pupil has the capacity to put into practice democratic values, attitudes and behaviours in their daily life at home, school and the community. The atmosphere in the classroom is stimulating, interactive and thought-provoking. Pupils are actively engaged with the political, social and moral issues of the world around them to develop skills of participation and responsible action. A wide variety of resources, technology, visuals and so on are available as a means to tap on the learning styles of the pupils. Here is a pupil’s work on the role of the United Nations:

for ACE, it is not an elective but a compulsory subject that contributes to 20% of your humanities score, eg: Geo, Hist, E.Lit, C.Lit. You will have 2 essays and 2++ socratic debates plus 1 on-going project work (ATT) for assessment. It is not hard to score for ACE essays as long as you remember to apply the skills that you will be learning for History. Other than that, oay attention in class and you will be fine^^

Hi, do you know if the briefing slides are uploaded to any og the DHS portal? I couldn't find it on the DHS website.

When will students be informed on the outcome of their CCAs and when do they need to start reporting for CCAs?
