Just to share again my P5 boy’s SA2 results in his latest chinese exam.

      Paper 79/90 Compo 33/40 Oral 49/50 Listening 20/20

Looking at this results at the moment when it is closer and closer to his PSLE next year, not only pleasure did I get to his big and constant improvement, but I could also sense his strong confidence to Chinese which was attained from Huacheng classes for over years’ tuition there. Especially to my suprised, he was able to get almost full marks unexpectedly on Oral and Listening this time, which he was a bit week in the past. I can see great observable progress here.
This year, he was taking two classes with HuaCheng, Enrich(强化班)and Elite(精英班), each once a week. Enrichment is more focus on fundmental stuff while Elite class is targeting to achieve higher on compre, writing, oral and listening. I think that his progress on compo, oral and listening is mainly attributed to Huacheng’s theme-focus approach. Their materials are nicely classified into many kinds of themes, and they systematically make use of some same kinds of topics or themes repeatedly and creatively in separated practices for different type of questions for comprehension, oral and listening. I saw those topics were distributed also as extra readings as homeworks and would be gone through in class. The children felt also happy to see these familiar topics again and again in various practices which are also often tested in school exams, eventually more solid foundation and confidence were both gained. My boy especially loved the atmosphere in his Elite class, as the teachers always tried to make them brainstorming on topics and gave hints on how to score higher right to the points required while he was often enlightened by others’ ideas.

I am happy to see this theme-focus approach worked effectively for my son. I also feel more confident for the coming P6 challenge. I will continue and also going to take their holiday programe for P6 preparation, I heard they are going to review all the lessons from P4 to P5. It might be the last chance for them to replenish, as the drumbeat of PSLE is closing.

        Hi,

Just want to share on my P5 DD's progress since signing up mid this year.

There has been a marked improvement in her compo and open-ended comprehension passages.

I do believe that credit should be given to Hua Cheng's teacher (Ms Kuang) for the improvement in her grades considering her below par results during mid-year. 😄

Even her school chinese teacher commented that she has shown great progress.

Will be signing her for holiday program. Quite intensive 2 weeks to do her final revision.

Does anybody has the experience with Hua cheng at Thomson plaza? Is that as good as this one at BT plaza? I enrolled their P1 preparation holiday program, which is quite impressed with its materials and nice teacher, and my gal likes it, but it is a bit far to my house.

              Hi phtthp,

I don't have experience at Parkway branch. However, I just enrolled my P1 dd with them at bukit timah since Jan this year. I was really impressed by their holiday program and materials, and my daughter feels good so far. As she just joined, it really takes time to give precise judgment.
If you are interested in the materials you may want PM me, I can scan some for your reference.

Heard that there is a talk conducted by Learning point at bukit timah plaza regarding to how parents can better understand policy changes in curriculum and how parents can help their child cope with these changes on English. The speaker will be a lecture of NIE. http://www.learningpoint.com.sg/

I checked with Huacheng, as sister company of learningpoint, they has got also allocated some limited seats for Huacheng's parents to register this talk with free of charge. But parents have to approach to Huacheng's counter for tickets before hand. Although it is for English, but it's worth to know how the new syllabus affact the kids, and what we could prepare in advance.

                  Hi!

I had posted before asking about Hua Cheng Thomson Plaza branch. But I didn’t gather enough info then. My son joined another tuition centre but I am still thinking of trying the programme in Hua Cheng (Thomson) because it is more convenient for me.
Does anyone has any views on this centre? I think they have 3 branches…what are the differences? I am choosing between Thomson and bukit timah…anyone try any of these two?

                      Hi MustKiasuParent,

If you are looking for chinese enrichment centre at Bukit Timah Plaza, there are two centers there, Hua cheng and Xue Lin. I have no experience with Xue lin but you can find some comments from ppls in the forum.

As for Huacheng, my Ds has been with them for two years. Now he is preparing his PSLE, I would say that he has been bult with good foundation within the two years for CL, of course, that is not only attributed to the centre. But Hua cheng did push him very hard, my Ds did quite well in compo and compre in his recent SA1.

His CL is the best subject right now which is the one most close to be ready for the final shoot. Now we just hope he could be able to maintain the current standard until then ...

However, it does not mean that it works for all kids. The centre also encourage parents working together with them, sometime we also could feel the presure... often got sms to be reminded for preparing spellings and checking corrections for ds ... especially before exams. It is really not easy and fun ...

Personally feel the materials are good, targeting to achieve higher marks for school exams. Class size is ok less than 10. My boy said his teacher was quite nice but strict, she explained things very clear and taught them skills on how to score every mark in questions.

Hi, I called up Hua Cheng Thomson and was told that they use different curriculum from the Bukit Timah branch. Any comments on which branch is better?

                        Thanks.
