Just to share with u on music interest. I was in dilemma too as whether to let her continue when PSLE approaching. She decided to keep her once a week lessons. We stopped the lesson abt 6months before PSLE, but she still practice to release study stress. I think kids need something else beside study to channel their boredom and divert their attention for a while, thus gaining a fresher felling when they go back on revision.Sleepy
Same here. DD has decided to stop her music lessons too and I had to reluctantly agree cos she just doesn't have time to practice. :sad:
Anyway, I just take her music as a hobby for her. Now that she is in sec1, she opted for Music Elective Program. She has much fun and exposure from it. She even started to take up second instrument, this time I oblige even though I am silently worry if she can cope with so many more subjects in hand.
I don't know where she heading in the future, worry if she concentrate too much on music then her academic maybe neglected. But again, I tell myself to let her be as long as it is a positive thing. Hopefully she manage well.
I think kids who has interest are happier kids, they know what they like and take pride in it, and will be motivated to go for it. Interest is optional and subjective, so this may give a sense of freedom to choose, express and excel. PSLE is for everyone, and kind of mandatory and boring...but what to do, they still have to kill it and prove they can win it.

My dd's number 1 hobby is reading not music. She's a giantic bookworm, reads anything from encyclopedia to reader digests to survival series comics. I'm not sure if there's such as term as over-reading although she certainly seems to be way too engrossed whenever she reads, to the extent of blocking out my voice. Same for myDD1. She loves to read and relaxes by doodling or writing letters to friends. Although has stopped music which she has lost interest in, she is still pursuing interest in dance. Think she has enough on her plate.

how many hours of sleep needed for p5 kids?my son sleep 8hrs.now trying to increase to 9hrs.

My boy used to have 7-8 hrs of sleep on school days since P5. He only get to enjoy 9 hrs of sleep during school holidays & on Sundays. -
my son get headache and absent to school(once in a week) i think cos of not enough sleep or stress. his eye check-up ok. after came from supplementary,he feel so tired.around 6:30, i bring him to playground and fetch my daughter.8pm we come back from playground.three days a week we go to playground.this three days i cannot give any extra work.he can do his school hw 8-9.dinner then sleep. I don’t want him to get headache.

For maths paper2, do the kids need to write number sentence?They can use calculator.My son just put the answer only. -
7hrs for ds. Not because of HW, he stays up to read storybook and refused to sleep
