If there are already 200 pupils on the waiting list, why do they even need to do Sec 1 Registration anymore? Surely all will be filled up by the PSLE results day, leh.Hi, saw this on ST online, to share with all parents.

Places filled at new SST - Overwhelming response to school that offers more hands-on learning
THERE were more pupils than places available when applications opened for the new School of Science and Technology (SST), which starts in January.
About 1,140 students applied for 200 Secondary 1 places through the Direct School Admission (DSA), which allows them to gain provisional entrance based on their talents in academic and non-academic areas such as dance, robotics and niche sports.
All 200 spots were filled. Candidates had to ace a video audition and attend a selection camp where they sat for written tests and performed tasks to gauge their analytical and collaborative skills.
Students at SST will study similar core subjects for the O-level exams as those in other secondary schools do. But they will do more hands-on learning, and will study subjects in other areas such as business skills, media, design, and environmental science and technology.
They will need a cut-off score of 200 points for their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) to confirm their places, but the school predicts that all of its provisional students will achieve this.
If any miss the mark, there are another 200 pupils on the waiting list to take their places. The enthusiastic response means that those with stellar PSLE scores but who did not apply through the DSA are likely to be turned away. -

There will be some who had previously accepted SST and now have stellar PSLE results who will try to transfer out to a IP school.
Anyway, those with stellar results need not worry at all. There will be many IP schools who will gladly welcome them thru the PSLE posting or thru the appeal process. Many of these schools have about 50% of places for students with good PSLE results. -

But then SST has enough to fill up the places from it's waitlist, leh. There will be some who had previously accepted SST and now have stellar PSLE results who will try to transfer out to a IP school.

Yes SST has 200 in waitlist to fill up all places. By time PSLE results are out, all places not taken up by the confirmed offers will go to those on waitlist.

But the appeal process starts now or after the PSLE posting results. So some with stellar results may then appeal to schools like RI or HCI. Some with 260+ may also apply directly to NUSH which still have vacancies for PSLE applicants. Once they are successful, there will be some vacancies in SST. To fill these vacancies, SST will also have students who did not succeed in DSA appealing to get in. In deciding who gets in thru the appeal process, SST is not obliged to admit those still on its waitlist. It will be the sole discretion of SST who gets in thru the appeal process. It is anyone's guess if they will admit someone on the waitlist list or someone with stellar PSLE results. -
hi is there anyone going to sst to report on monday

-
Got a call from SST, said DS accepted.
Must give answer by tomorrow morning!
In dilemma…
If only was accepted in the 1st place, would have gladly taken up the offer.
But now dunno how… -

A tough choice to make, but the new schools looks promising too. If the sec school he is posted to is a O-level schl too, then no harm considering SST. But of course other criteria like distance, friends, etc etc.
Not easy - i know ...
Make the right choice for him - good luck !!! -

Yes, harini, DS went for interview afterall. Was undecided about interview, then in order to keep his options open, i persuaded him to go for the interview.

Did not expect to get through interview cos he was already not so keen.
His reasons are the holding school lack facilities, the distance too far.
Bought all the TKSS text books and uniforms!
That's not an issue though.
TKSS has bought over DS's heart.
So sayang, so sayang.......
DS quite sure about his choice. -

DS quite sure about his choice.[/quote]Looks like ur boy knows exactly where he wants to go, what is ur choice ?? Sometimes we also need to consider if their choice is right for them. At 12 they are not very mature too.
Does he have friends going to SST - that may be a trump card to use.
I just feel if SST were offering a 6 yr pgme, choosing them wld be much wiser.
Sit down and write down the pros and cons together and maybe award points for each school. It may help to quantify the two schools.
Good luck :celebrate: -

But my DS not too concerned about friends.
He says can make new friends in new school.
Yeah, you are right, if 6 year program, then it would be the choice.
Just afraid that the education there will limit his choices later in life.
It is so ironical.
We were so interested right from the beginning, attending all the activites organised by SST, right till the end. Then now like that.........
