      MathIzzzFun:
      snowball:

      Ivan has $276 & Bala had $540.

      After each of them bought a hand phone of the same price, Bala had three times as much money left as Ivan. How much did the hand phone cost?

      Concept of \"same difference /same gap\"..

      http://i47.tinypic.com/1y1xuf.png\">

      http://i45.tinypic.com/14dq9n6.png\">

      can you continue from here?

      cheers.

      2u = 540-276
      1u = 264
      so hp = 276-132 = 144 (ans)

      m i correct ? :please:

          How about these:

          1. Shariman gets $5 more allowance than Nicky everyday. Each of them spends $10 a day and saves the rest. When Shariman saves $153, Nicky saves only $78. How much allowance does Shariman get everyday?

          2. Jane and Kelly have 120 beads altogether. Kelly and Linda have 80 beads altogether. Jane and Linda have 160 beads altogether. How many beads does each girl have?

          Thank you very much.

            2 teams were having a tug of war. The number of members in team A was 6/7 of the number of members in team B. After 2 members left team B due to injury, the number of members in team A was 7/8 of the number of members in team B. Find the number of members in Team A.

              The number of members in Team A remains the same --> equalize the numerators.

              At first, Team A = 6/7 Team B = 84/98 Team B
              In the end, Team A = 7/8 Team B = 84/96 Team B

              So, there are 84 members in Team A

              cheers.

                Q1... concept of same difference/same gap --> each spent same amount each day, so Shariman will save $5 more than Nicky every day.

                $153 - $78 = $75
                $75 / $5 = 15 days of savings

                Shariman's daily allowance = $10 + $153/15 = $20.20

                cheers.

                  Jane + Kelly --> 120
                  Kelly + Linda --> 80
                  Jane + Linda --> 160

                  Adding all...
                  Jane + Kelly + Linda --> (120+80+160)/2 = 180
                  Linda --> 180-120 = 60
                  Jane --> 180 - 80 = 100
                  Kelly --> 180 - 160 = 20

                  cheers.

                      http://i45.tinypic.com/i6zbsz.png\">

                      2 members from Team B left, 1 unit --> 2

                      42 units --> 84 (Team A)

                      cheers.

                        Thanks MathIzzzFun,

                        I got the first one but not quite sure about the second question, the part where you illustrated:

                        Adding all…
                        Jane + Kelly + Linda –> (120+80+160)/2 = 180
                        Linda –> 180-120 = 60
                        Jane –> 180 - 80 = 100
                        Kelly –> 180 - 160 = 20

                        Thing is, wouldn’t there be duplication if we added them all?

                        And I have difficulty understanding the rational behind dividing the total by 2.

                        Please could you enlighten me further?

                        Thank you very much.
