Yes. My first maid , I let her have a hp , next she hide in the toilet to call , fetch my son from Sch also call till my son's classmate mum told me that very dangerous esp crossing the road . Next thing got bf ...... Although she is very gd , I decided to ask her to leave . Cannot stand it anymore !at first no phone
then allowed to use house phone
then allowed to own a mobile phone
then spending more and more time on the mobile phone, locked in the toilet
then spending more and more time on the phone, sms-ing, chatting, morning, afternoon, evening, late at night, well past mind-nite .....
then house work standard got worse and worse and cut corners
then spending more and more $$ on phone card / prepay cards
then monthly salary no longer enough to pay for phone bills
then borrow $$ from other maids
then borrow $$ from other people / foreign workers
then start to steal money from employers .......
slippery slope of having a mobile phone ? lack of civil liberty for the maid ? lack of freedom ?
the above are true stories ..... 3 out 5 maids will have such problems, statistically
Second maid I allow her to talk weekend . I keep her hp weekday . The whole weekend talk and talk . Home's phone ring , I got to go and answer , wash dishes also listen to phone ( music ) :slapshead: -
I keep my maid’s hp and only give it to her at night after her work is done and she hands it back to me before 11pm. It was going well until about a month ago when I noticed her work performance slowing down a lot, more toilet breaks and longer time to do her business, and taking forever to iron. I think these are the general signs of a maid with a hp. I walked into her room today and caught her with her new hp (she was using it and ironing at the same time). She knows from day 1 that she is not allowed to keep one on her own. I had a lot of problems with my first maid using her hp as I didn’t set any rules and she would talk until 2-3am at night and broke a lot of my things (broke through 2 irons, 5 teapots, many cups, lots more other things) and was constantly tired during the day. She worked for me for almost 4 years and in the end I transferred her as her attitude was getting really bad. After she left I always set rules with hp usage.
So with this current maid, I took her new hp back and reminded her that she is not to keep a hp on her own. I told her she can use it every night and even during the day but must ask me for it. I told her I want to keep the relationship and not have to wonder what she is doing when her work performance is slower than normal one day over the next. Gut feeling she might ask for a transfer without being able to "keep" her hp or simply buy another one…
It is not easy to enforce the rule and most will break it - having their hp at night after work is simply not good enough. She is my fourth maid and my two previous maids before her broke the rule and I end up giving in to them because I was too tired to keep on training a new maid and to end up hearing them wanting to transfer because of the same old problem - not being able to keep their own hp. I will probably give in to my current maid and let her keep her hp as I can already foresee what is going to happen - she will leave without one. But for sure rules must be set. Only use it during lunch break and after work is done at night. But if she is still not happy with those rules and cross the limit, then I am happy to transfer her. -
maids would do amazing things that surprise u.
My ex maid used ladder n climbed over to the neighbour’s hse to chat wf their maid.
my ang moh neighbour’s maid, who is a Filipino, complained to my DH,coz i didn’t allow her singtel guys to come over to my hse to the fix the line.In fact, i was ill that day so I didn’t answer the door,i thought it was saleguy…so daring, right?
If u offend the maids, u would find dog shit right at ur doorstep every morning. We saw the maid did that but we didn’t wanna stir up a fuss with their employer so washed the dog shit off. -
We cannot afford to offend maids…or else you either drink water with menstrual blood, soap powder or etc. Worst case, get murdered.
My former maids had hp…told them NO usage during ‘work’ hours. 9pm, they disappeared into the room, chit chat/sms till wee hours of the morning…so naturally cannot wake up at 6am.
Then, have to top up card very soon again. Endless cycle. -
agree…cannot offend maid.
my frd’s maid put menstrual blood into her DH’s coffee every AM,and mixed into the milk n fed her 1yr old toddler.
my ex maid ran to the nearby police st,claimed that we abused her.Police couldn’t find any bruises or injuries on her.Ironically, police said they were going to close (it was Xmas eve)n asked us to pick her asap.We called her agent.Agent refused to pick her initially,at the end, picked her after few hours later. -

Most maids are capable of making up lies.
My former Indon maid took 2 hours to buy kuay teow from the market...which is 5 min walk away. Suspected she used the phone downstairs. She was always broke because she spent most of her salary buying phone cards. -
One of my former filipino maids, always spend at least half an hour to wear make up,put on ear rings, change clothes, put perfume,b4 she goes NTUC to buy newspaper.
