NY very stressful. One day can give the students one big pile of SIA proposals, worksheet etc even if they have CCA on that day
And some need to be handed up the next day. -
What is SIA proposal? Now I’m worried. Everybody seems to be saying that her daughter has lots of homework to do while mine doesn’t seem to be doing much.

Don't worry! SIA are basically like BRP research papers, story telling SIA, Chinese compo SIA. That's all I know so far for Sec 1! Sec one SIA are usually handed up in week eight or 10 as I know of, and many homework can be completed in school! For my DD she does her homework in school before she comes home and not all homework are to be handed up the next day! Hope this helps a bit

Thanks for explaining! I’m worried because my kid seems to be very free compared to other kids. Had heard that her hardworking classmates are busy too but she’s still so free.
Does anybody know if gymnastics is any good as a cca? Besides uniform group, this is the only cca she didn’t audition for and got placed in. I had read somewhere that gymnastics is only for dsa students so why is she in it? She asked me if it’s too desperate for people and that’s why she’s there. -
According to my dd, a few of the teachers are biased and a little unreasonable. But after a year in there( she's now in year 2), it is really not a bad choice of school
The school management updates us quite frequently and her form teacher is quite on the ball! -
Cassiopeia_:
Have you thought about having a word with the teacher to find out why the teacher said that? I would want to know why a teacher has such bad impression of my kid. When my kid's P5 teacher remarked that my kid was lying over something trivial, I emailed her telling her that I was concerned about her impression of my kid being a liar. Subsequently, the teacher called me back to explain the situation to me.
Sec 1 still manageable. But my daughter is in Sec 2 and work has been piling since 2nd week of school... And her Chinese teacher doesn't teach at all. Some teachers are also quite unreasonable. One of the subject teacher told the class that my daughter purposely skipped school when she was actually on MC. Most teachers are really biased and some are not fairly treated. My daughter CCA(Performing Arts) is really stressful too. The teachers pressurize her a lot.
As for gymnastics CCA, it's not bad. But they give priority to those who DSA in to participate in competitions.
Giving priority to dsa kids for competitions is understandable. Those kids are talented and groomed for the sports and that's why they dsa-ed into the school in the first place. My kid was selected to do gymnastics when she was in p1 but she gave it up a year later when it became 'difficult and boring', plus she was quite sickly and was often absent from the training sessions. We felt that after one big round of running away from it, she's back to square one. -
Mdm wenjuan,
A friend of mine went thro something similar during her jc1 year.
According to her, she was often on mc for thyroid and didn’t go to school on certain days when the medication makes her drowsy and lethargic. All but her management teacher didn’t like her, citing ‘attitude problem’ as my friend’s problem.
Once, in class, a teacher threw a duster at her when she was talking. Fortunately, the duster missed her. But the whole class went quiet while my friend was still clueless about what had flown past her. When she realized what had happened, she felt humiliated. Subsequently, the teacher apologized to my friend but she refused to forgive her. She was wearing glasses and it would have been dangerous if the duster had hit her specs and broken it, shattering the glass into her eyes.
At the end of the year, my friend was asked to leave the school as all the teachers except her management teacher had wanted the school to expel her. When my friend’s father cited her thyroid as the reason for her frequent abscence, the principal quoted the example of a boy who contracted leukemia but did well for his O level.
It’s very sad that such things happen. The only thing we as parents can do is to try to rescue the situation early by communicating with the teachers.
Did the girl tell her mother the incident? -
I’m utterly shocked by what our S2 parents have shared. I’ve always heard that NY has good caring teachers. It was precisely for this reason that we chose NY over RGS… hope we don’t regret it.
So far dd’s S1 teachers are ok, though there is a particular teacher that seems to teach much less than expected and somewhat of a "scatterbrain", forgetting to give the class the prescribed worksheets on time, then piling a whole stack on them.
I think we are aware that NY school management (P & teachers) do read this KSP thread. We urge them to investigate and take action on those black sheep amongst the teachers, so as to uphold the good name of NY. -
My daughters in NYGH come home filled with assignments each day. They suffer from insomnia and often fall sick staying up to complete assignments with the new school rule and the teachers threats. I was called up by a teacher who threatened to give my daughter a 0 for two assignments when she put both in the pigeon hole by the first recess! I was utterly disappointed. I have a S2 daughter who was a top student in pri school, but when she came here, she did not understand many material. When she could not hand in ws on time due to this, she was scolded for bad attitude and often comes home crying to change school. She is even at the verge of quitting school due to the extreme stress and measures the teachers use against her. I was pleased with the school in early S1, but eventually I learnt to not judge a book by its cover. Tks for reading and hope this helps
