Somebody asked me this. Is having an EMA sufficient ground for internal disciplinary action? And is a mere failure to declare that lover is working for a sub-contractor to the tenderer sufficiently grave to warrant dismissal from public service especially when he did not take part in the decision to award the contract? Dunno the answer. :?
pirate,
hope you don't mind me being mischievous here.
IMO, part of the reason why civil servants have been given a hammering left right and centre of late, is because of all this baying for blood for even the slightest perceptions of conflicts of interest. There is one particular case I know of (which came up in the press), where there was a real travesty of justice when a government officer was sacked for not declaring a related party in a transaction involving the department, even when the officer was not personally involved in the transaction. All for the sake of saving face for the public. That's how the heads of departments are feeling these days.
People need to get off this conflicts-of-interest high horse, or these types of injustices (including NBG perhaps) will keep occurring. -

yah... quite amazed by what the wife said in the ST interview.TheAnswer:
So at the end of the day, who is at the losing end?
I still feel that he is at the losing end as so what he was acquitted, he still need to pay his hefty lawyer fees? and also the entire Singapore knows he has an affair. So his \"face\" value might not be worth as before.
In terms of what he has gained.... forgiveness from the wife???? that is between them and only they know the real situation behind the closed door. Free service by CS?
What do the wives on KSP think of that?? -

Having EMA is not the ground for internal disciplinary action. However, never report a conflict of interest when dealing with that tender is.
He will likely not be sacked but asked to resign. -

If one were having an EMA with a vendor, he would hardly report that he was in a personal relationship with that person, would he? -

think everyone lost (including Gay who is half a million poorer now, + those at work trying to \"nail\" him / CS, CS husband), except his lawyer who helped him win the costly court case (think at least half a million $) - laughing all the way to the bank to collect $.
maybe in the next case -
that SCDF chief can consider hire back this same lawyer since he'd proven that he'd helped Ah Gay won the case. -

that's a good one...His lawyer looks very confident. He gains fame n credibility doing Gay's case.Howard Shaw shld hv looked for him. -
if any of those 48 men with that 17 underaged prost case still not taken up yet, maybe can consider hiring Ah Gayβs confident lawyer. Heβd made himself famous now, able to tackle prosecution lawyers. Howard Shaw case over (he was jailed 12 weeks) β¦ maybe that outstanding MOE scholar chap can consider, if his case not open yet.

maybe he can go into those private companies that need his police background and drug management experience.
Forget about being CEO of state-link company. He can only go into private companies now. Pay-cut? I don't think so. -

Senior counsel Tan Chee Meng is a prominent and well known lawyer, just maybe not in your circle, or had not defended a highly scandalous case like this case that brought him to your attention.
