All About Church/Clan/Society Membership

Hi, if I am a hokkien member, so that will be phrase 2B? Or need to obtain the recommendation letter then can be in phrase 2B? Rather confused here, appreciate some advice. Thanks.

Nearer to the registration period, you will need to submit an application to SHHK to indicate which of the clan affiliated schools you intend to enroll your child in.
SHHK will consolidate all applications and issue recommendations to deserving
members, based on some criteria unknown to outsiders (seniority? contribution?).
If you are one of the lucky ones, then you can proceed to register in phase 2B. -

hi, if you are a member of the SHHK, you will need to submit an application form to the clan for the recommendation letter. This typically takes place way before the start of registration (pls call them/check out their website for further details so as not to miss the deadline). In the form, you will have to put in the school you wish to apply to. They will assess internally based on their 'secret' set of criteria.
Approval will only happen AFTER Phase 2A2 is over. If approved, you will be informed of your success (some parents prefer to call up the clan). You will basically have a couple of days to sweat if your application is approved - calling any earlier will not work.
Some parents may receive the letter via mail; others will just get a phone call to go down to the desired school on day of 2B registration (the school will have a list of eligible members).
As usual, don't have to rush down and join the queue on the first day. there is no first come first serve; if you have the letter, you have it. Just go when you are free (I preferred to go on latter days to escape the crowd).
And fyi, should anything happen in the interim and you decide at the last minute NOT to apply to the clan school after all. No matter, you don't have to do anything (eg inform the school/clan). As long as you don't register in that school, you are not bound to have your child in there. Just go to your desired school and register.
Hope that clarifies matters

Thks BigDevil and hquek for the explanation!
Btw, any idea if to apply for PV for the SHHK schools, do I need to stay within 1km of the school? Thinking to be kiasu and apply for pv as well, in case I fail to get the recommendation letter. -
Actually your chances of getting letter can be calculated. Remember that pv is for 1 school only and will not give you higher chance against a clan member. But do what you feel you want to put in. Just not sure if you feel effort to be worth.
All the best. -

depends on school. if you are aiming for tao nan or ai tong, bemchmark will be higher. but th8ngs mzy have changed since they now have pv scheme for those aiming for letters. that will add brownie points.

Dear Parent,
I am searching for the Hokkien Clan members to second my membership application. Hope you are willing to assist on this matter.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Parents,
I am looking at joining SHHK out of my own interest/culture and not because of primary school enrolment. I am a pure hokkien and I will like to send my daughter (only 3 this year) just for the enrichment classes. We are staying nowhere near any of the SHHK schools.
Can you please help to endorse my membership application?
Thanks in advance. -
Every year when p1 registration is due in July -
for each school that comes under control of Hokkien Huay Kwan, do they cap the max. no. of letters issued for phase 2B applicants?
How does it work? Once reach max target, does it mean they wonβt issue any more letter(s) even if further more applicants turn up to request ?
