auto-cancelled once cancel work permit. Once you cancelled the work permit, you have 7 days to send her off.

Does your maid do light chores like sweeping the floor and tidying before she leaves for her day off? What does she do after she returns from her off day - help with washing / keeping of dishes or stay in her room?

My Phil ex-maid ( with me for 4 years ) used to prepare juice, sweep and tidy the house before she left. When she returned, she would wash / keep the dishes ( if there were any ) [ we never intentionally left dishes, but her timing for return would be after our dinner if we happened to eat at home ] and throw garbage, before retiring to her room for the night.

My relative’s Phil maid ( working in Spore for 3 years ) will clean floor and toilets before leaving on her off day at 9 plus am, and help with dishes and clean up after she returns at 7pm plus.

My friend’s Indo maid can only go off when family returns from church. She will clean and do light chores in morning, then must return by 6pm to prepare light dinner.

My new Phil maid refuses to even tidy the house before she leaves after having her breakfast at home. She says this is work and must pay if she works even a little on her off day. When she returns at 7pm (already has dinner before returning even though I offered to buy her dinner), shuts herself in room, sometimes talking loudly on mobile ( such that we can hear in dining room). I clean up dining table, wash dishes, throw garbage… And then she appears to go to toilet ( I believe she knows when the work is done ), ignores the washed dishes waiting to be kept and returns to her room and shuts door till next morn.

Is this the behaviour of new maids on off-days nowadays? Don’t lift finger to help at all and shuts herself in room? Am I expecting too much?

Honestly, I find her behaviour so calculative and such a turn-off. DH says don’t want to give increment for such attitude. Sure, doing these light chores is no big deal… I can handle the tidying in morning and wash up at night… In fact, I can do it faster than her. Is the behaviour of my exmaid, relative’s and friend’s maid the exception? And my new maid the norm?

How does your maid behave at home on her off-day?

My current filo maid (has been with me for coming 6 yrs) will do some chores or sometimes cook light lunch for my kids before she goes out.

When she is back, she will take over whatever chores that I have yet to complete.

Your maid is probably entitled to not doing any work at all on her off-day. However, like you have pointed out, the attitude can be such a big turn off, right? Mine sweeps the floor an tidies up the bedrooms before going out. If she sees dishes in the sink, she will wash it before going to bed. However, she is very precise about when she wants her off-days.... even when the kids are sick or my hubby traveling, she won't change anything.

Weekends are my off-days, too... but I spent it doing a report for my boss for his meeting this morning!

My Indo and Filo maids all do work before they go off and when they return. I have never asked them, they just do it.

By the letter of the law of course she is right in that a day off should be a day off. But in reality that is not the way that it has worked in the past and I think that most maids will do at least a little work on their day off.

My maid will still prepare breakfast and wash the dishes then she will help to get my boys ready for Church as I have to take my daughter to ballet. When she comes back she will prepare a light dinner for the children, tidy up and prepare the boys’ bags for childcare.

My current maid does work before she goes off for the day. I don’t expect her to, and have never asked her to. She does it of her own accord.

She sweeps and mops, cooks breakfast, and she washes the clothes too.

I just hired a Fillipino maid for my mother.

We asked the agent to get the maid to agree to clean up the house before leaving for her off day and also follow the timing we set for leaving and coming back home.

So far, she’s following the requirements as agreed.
