All About Full-Time Maids

Your maid is probably entitled to not doing any work at all on her off-day. However, like you have pointed out, the attitude can be such a big turn off, right? Mine sweeps the floor an tidies up the bedrooms before going out. If she sees dishes in the sink, she will wash it before going to bed. However, she is very precise about when she wants her off-days.... even when the kids are sick or my hubby traveling, she won't change anything.
Weekends are my off-days, too... but I spent it doing a report for my boss for his meeting this morning!  -
My Indo and Filo maids all do work before they go off and when they return. I have never asked them, they just do it.

By the letter of the law of course she is right in that a day off should be a day off. But in reality that is not the way that it has worked in the past and I think that most maids will do at least a little work on their day off.
My maid will still prepare breakfast and wash the dishes then she will help to get my boys ready for Church as I have to take my daughter to ballet. When she comes back she will prepare a light dinner for the children, tidy up and prepare the boys’ bags for childcare. -
My current maid does work before she goes off for the day. I don’t expect her to, and have never asked her to. She does it of her own accord.
She sweeps and mops, cooks breakfast, and she washes the clothes too. -
I just hired a Fillipino maid for my mother.
We asked the agent to get the maid to agree to clean up the house before leaving for her off day and also follow the timing we set for leaving and coming back home.
So far, she’s following the requirements as agreed. -
On coming back from her day off, my maid commented that Geylang was so crowded, more crowded than usual cos many new maids were there too.

:thankyou: Thanks to all for sharing.
Yes, based on letter of law, my maid does not need to lift a finger on her off day. Neither did I expect her to do cleaning. I \"innocently\" told her that she does not need to mop floor, just sweep the floor ( exclude bedrooms ) and tidy up the place, before she leaves. That's when she told me that I have to pay if she does even a little work on her off day. I mentioned all my ex-maids did this on their off days. She said that was then and now is different, her agent says no work on off day; otherwise employer must pay.
Her behaviour of shutting herself in the room when she returned, pissed DH off. Though I half-expected it, I was turned off too. ( Must find time away from home and her, to explain to kids that one should not be so calculating. )
DH says we shall stick to terms of her employment contract and not better it. No increment for her during duration of employment ( though my maids usually get increment after 6 months / 1 year ). She so silly, right? I wanted to increase, not becos her work is good but cos i always felt her pay ( set by agent ) was lower than norm. She's rather slow (suspect she \"eat snake\" when I'm out), fussy with food ( I buy tinned food for her cos she refuses to eat most of what we cook - can't let her eat plain rice or noodles right? ) and likes to talk back.
Most of my maids complete their contracts or extend. Some give problems near end of contract, so I terminate then. I am doing so much more household chores now with her compared to previous maids. I feel she will probably break the record, being the one with the shortest employment history with me. She's already the fussiest maid I have.
If only, she is so fussy with cleanliness....... -

My friend's maid tested positive for HIV after working for her for almost 4 years. Whole family had to be tested. Fortunately, tests for family was negative. After that, her maids use a different set of cutlery, cups, etc.
Police should conduct more raids on Sundays in Geylang to deter the maids from going there. -

Did not think I needed the agent to talk to her over such matter. To me, it was just minor light chores, didn't expect this reaction / behavior from her. Well, I learnt something new today, got to cover off-day behaviour / attitude too!I just hired a Fillipino maid for my mother.

These light chores no big deal to me, I can easily do them. Bringing this up to the agent now, may probably strain employer - maid relationship. Well, it's another thing to close both my eyes to. -
My God, so scary! Imagine we leave our little ones with them during the day!!
