Weekdays definitely no possibility of tuition...finish daily homework + revise whatever has been taught, especially on days when there is history, Geog or literature.

Son still needs tuition for language...But they are scheduled every saturday. Sunday nights are for some relaxation, if there is no test to be studied for the next day.
Preparing for PSLE last year was hectic...thought sec 1 will be a honeymoon of some sort, but it is not to be. What to do, have to accept. Heard most schools same same...tests very often.

      Hi Janet

Do you get the same tutors for your DS as last year (when he was in P6)? Or you changed tutor? I am being super KS here but good to know in advance. My DS is taking PSLE this year, but I \"foresee\" he may still need some Chinese or Math help when he proceed to Sec 1 nx year. The current tutors I doubt can teach Sec lvl so where do you find your Sec tutors and how much do they charge? TIA!

Sorry. I just thought that I can chip in here. Some P6 tutors do teach secondary level. Maybe you can check with them first.
For Sec school tutors, most full time grad tutors will be looking at $35-$45/hr. Thats the market rate for private tuition. Group tuition is another option. However, some tuition centers do hire undergrads so please check their qualifications.

        Thank so much TheAnswer.

I think DS really need to learn the correct style of writing for Argumentative, Reflective types of essay. Now, no long the primary narrative or descriptive Compo. Are there any books on great model essay. At least get him expose to these type of writing style. He has problem putting his viewpoints in an organized manner. And he is weak in supporting his viewpoints. As for Science, he faces problem in the answering structure. Eg. He answered : The letter \"C\" appeared as \"C\" inverted vertically. But tch marked him wrong. Answer giving by tch : the letter \"C\" look like \" \" ----sorry, I can't find an icon for the C inverted vertically. In all, the tch wants him to draw out exactly what he observed under the microscope whereas DS describe how the C look like in word.is it wrong to describe in word?
        Hi,
For the writing style, it takes time to handle the different types appropriately as its a big jump from P6 to Sec 1.

I recommend the following books (can be found in popular):
Redspot English Smart Series - Lower and Upper Secondary Essay Library
GLM Conceptual Learning Lower Secondary Physics/Chemistry/Biology
        Casco Maths 1A/1B

If you happen to consider getting tutors or going to tuition center for science, do make sure that they are teaching the topics that your child is learning currently. Some schools teach different topics during different months so do select the tuition centers wisely. If you happen to want private tutor for science, get one who can do all the 3 sciences.

Meanwhile do not stress your kid out. He just entered sec 1. Chill πŸ˜‰

          Hi TheAnswer, thanks for sharing.
Are there NIE trained tutors in the market for Sec tuition (current or ex-teacher) and what will be their charges?

Current/Ex school teachers will be around $50-$60/hr. Private tuition is seriously getting too expensive nowadays. I have students who are paying almost 1K a month for private tuition for merely 4 subjects. It’s also not easy to get a full time tutor now as its in the month of feb. Experienced tutors are already overwhelmed with students. Maybe check with other forum contributers to see if they have anyone to recommend?

I am looking for a Chinese tuition centre for my boy. Most of the tuition centres cater for primary schools. Currently my boy is with Jiang but the standard is too high for him. Anyone tried Tien Hsia Sec Higher Chinese? How you find the syllabus, standard & teachers there?

Maybe you can consider The Trees Chinese Learning Hut at Beauty World Centre.
