      Joule:

actually ah, not sure if you agree

it's being a 'high level' civil servant that people have toxic thoughts about

this saga is like the public execution of someone macham death of thousand cuts.

and to think the olde days of pillories and executions were over

I do not like to see it
Higher ups have it worse for sure, but I mentioned earlier in this thread about a mid-level officer let go for 'perceived' conflicts-of-interest.

Even when there is no wrong-doing, the public are out there baying for blood at ANY suggestion of trouble, real or not.

      Such is the cynicism...

Yeah, I don't like to see it either.

Be my guest.... , maybe you'll make a great civil servant, and have better empathy for the job.

I know one senior citizen who worked as civil servant in her younger days. Till date, all her medical expenses are minimal. She went so many operations due to cancer, removal of this, removal of that, her son only paid below $100 for a service fee or something like that.

Not sure whether current civil servants will have such benefits in their retiree days.

              But was it material?

If one were having an EMA with a vendor, he would hardly report that he was in a personal relationship with that person, would he?

His EMA is his private affairs and as long as it does not affect his work, there is no need for him to inform his bosses.

However, once that person in that EMA becomes a vendor to a project that he is supposed to sign off for approval, he needs to report it as clearly there is a conflict of interest and potentially a magnet to CPIB probe if he fails to do so.

I can't see how this can even be closely related to reality.

I understand the need the keep the 'appearance' of the lack of potential conflicts-of-interest, but even in a situation where there is a conflict-of-interest, it does not mean there was wrongdoing, as evidenced by the discharge of NBG.

This is the trap NBG fell into. He could not report it because it would have caused grave personal impact, and by not reporting, the CPIB felt compelled to prosecute, in order to keep the public happy. I don't think even THEY thought that the tender itself was biased. But the way the Singaporean public is these days.........better not be a civil servant.[/quote]If he had reported it, his EMA with CS will just be a personal and private matter. His boss might advise him to end it but cannot penalise him for having an EMA. There is no grave personal impact unless his boss is his wife.

If he had declared it, CPIB did not even have a case to start with, let alone bringing the case to court. For keeping quiet about the EMA, CPIB will interpret it as he had something to hide and this is not just a simple sexual relationship.

think because she is on pension scheme.
my friend's mom was a Primary school teacher last time, on pension scheme. Today whenever she go hospital, she's given class A ward treatment. Everything paid by govt, including surgery, medicine, etc. Govt also pay her around $ 3000 per month, because she Teacher last time. Now no more pension scheme.

This is what they called the \"Gold Card\" medical privilege. No more on offer. With the rising medical cost, it will be crazy if the government continue to provide such benefits to all the civil servants.

I heard the Gold Card can be use by the spouse and also extends to the children before they turn 21. Super solid.

think if he reported it earlier, his boss may transfer him to another post, or assign someone else instead to handle the IT vendor project, not him. Then he won't be involved. Then no need to pay $ half a million dollars to engage lawyer fight case. And his reputation won't be ruined.

No true bro. Civil service's retirement and medical packages are two different entities. Pension scheme is a retirement package that is no longer offered to most of the civil services but there a still a few that still gets it.

Medical packages are civil service wide. Meaning if in 1980 they ended the Gold Card scheme, those who joined the civil service after that date will be under the new medical benefit, regardless what services they are in.

Ya you are right. The spouse till date enjoys the same benefits. I recalled she said something Pension Scheme. But if I am not wrong, the CPF cannot withdrawn full amount.
I think they were given 2 choices at that time, my FIL chose withdraw all CPF money. He didn't choose Pension scheme.
Now civil servant, once retired, medical fees will be borne ownself is it?
