It’s good to let maids go out…at least family members can bond without a stranger around. Eat out with the kids and spend the time happily.

If maids get weekly off, no need to bring them out. But be prepared for maids to come home brainwashed after each outing. It will be ‘mam, my friend no need to wash car, why I must?’ Or else, mam can I have advance pay? Mam, i want to use the computer to send pic…AND their mobile phones will ring non-stop.

The party has just started. 9 mth down the road, we should start to see more and more ‘funny’ cases from maids and bangla etc.

Actually,I think maids have better benefits than those poor elderly who has to clean tables at foodcourts or clean toilets!!

ESP when maids dun worry about accommodation+food!!& their pay has been increasing by leaps & bounds!!
            Can govt justify this!!?
Shouldn’t Halimah look into our OWN citizens’ welfare 1st??
If maids can’t accept not having off-days,then just don’t come here to work!
No indo/phiilipinos,then look for alternatives! India…mynmar…Cambodia…
            eXPlore…Not Pamper!!
More than 10yr ago, indo maids r regarded as ‘can’t make it’,& lousy, slow in learning etc!!
So what does that tell u???
Should give other nationalities a chance!!
Me +hubby had 1st maid fm indo, aft 6mths,caught stealing, though we were so nice to her!
Ever since,we only used Mynmar maids…they r also not perfect(no one is anyway),but at least I have no worries on stealing coz they r more honest…
& hardworking…& they haf kind heart, not vengeful type,I can leave my bb & young kids with them quite safely(after some months of training)…
& current maid which just extended contract, has never asked for off-days or Hp for past 2 years!!
I thank GoD for having her, though she does forget to do certain tasks on & off:)

for myan to understand spoken english, can be very long. My current myan maid passed her test on the first round, we thought her english is good. Wrong! she couldn’t understand much of what we were trying to communicate. it took about double the time to train her. even today I’m not sure if she understand what we say. Interesting that she can read books (english) but she can’t speak nor understand us.

But I have heard of myan who can speak chinese (i think they have common border).

it's quite common for people who learn English as a 2nd language to be able to read more than they can understand and speak. Reading gives more time to think, is more structured and there are no issues with accents.

my maid is already getting lots of time off every day (including Saturday and Sundays).

As I’m working from home recently, I noticed that all my maid does is hide out in her room after she has finished vacuuming, mopping and done with the laundry (chores are completed within 4 hours). She does not cook or do grocery shopping.

Employers are always at the mercy of their maids...especially full time working mums. They can't afford to offend maids as the kids are in their hands. My grandmother's Filipino maid isn't supposed to start rest day this year, but to keep her happy, she has weekly Sunday off as well as Christmas Day last year.

She used my grandmother's senior citizen card (MRT) as well...best part is my grandmother doesn't go out.

Brother's Myanmar maid doesn't understand English even after 3 months. It's difficult to get anything across to her. Their language is hard to learn. Frustrating to communicate too...for eg 'talk'...i checked her dictionary to show her meaning, that's it. Mum demonstrated how to use thermal cooker, but she still poured contents of the soup into the cooker :slapshead:

She cannot travel as she has car sickness. Mum bought her medication to prevent nausea but it is not working. Brother and his wife had to leave her at home. Headache getting a maid.

I would advise you to keep that card away from her. If she gets caught using it, not only she, but your grandma as well could get into trouble.
