I think it also depends on the students and their upbringing. My niece was from AHS and she is very responsible and a great help to her parents. She was brought up with a silver spoon until her father's business failed. She gives tuition part-time while doing her degree. She takes things in her strife and look forward to graduating and starting work next year to ease her family's burden. :ugogirl:

During her stint in AHS, it was one of the top choice school but I have heard recently that standard has dropped or something. 😐

As a parent who is going to have a VS boy in the house next year, I am comforted to hear good comments about VS, and it confirms that we have not made a wrong decision. From a personal experience, I am sure VS will have a large positive influence on my son. Since obtaining his positing results just days ago, DS has been very excited to behave like a Victorian should. He remembers the school values and the ultimate aim of what a Victorian should be. I can see he is trying his best to live by these values. If a few days can bring such change, I’m excited to see what four years will bring. I can’t say much about AHS but I just feel that I’m satisfied with the values taught in VS, even if it may not be a traditional chinese school.

I agree with tutormum.AHS standard has dropped .This year cutoff has dropped to 240 ( 4pts down from last year ) . My son scored 247 but we did not placed VS in the ist choice during school selection . Now , very eargerly waiting for the appeal result . Understand there is a orientation tomorrow and hope by then, the appeal result will be released .

:? thought the orientation is over for every school? Why would VS still be having an orientation tomorrow? :?

I believe all schools already done with their registration on 23-Dec . For VS , i think they are slightly different . Tomorrow is their Sec 1 orientation day whereby the students will know their classroom ,meet up with their classmates and form teachers.

OIC, that's interesting! First time heard of a school having an Orientation before the school reopens. Most schools do it in the first week of Jan. So you intend to go to the Orientation tomorrow to find out if your son is successful? Just curious, hope you don't mind.

In fact , I am now waiting eagerly for the school to call up . I believe the results should be known by end of today to cater for all students to meet up tomorrow . I think if i don’t hear anything today, very likely the appeal is not sucessful . Will update u gals if my son got into VS !

You mean tomorrow is the day whereby they would release the appeal results as well as their Orientation Day? Like that is very unfair to the appeal students that they have to miss the Orientation Day.

Did you try calling the school to see if the appeal students would be invited to the Orientation tomorrow? That would give you a better idea as to whether your son would miss the Orientation tomorrow.

If I am not wrong, the Orientation Camp for year 2009 is from 2~4 Jan.

So the boys went to school officially on 5 Jan for the New School Year.
