      Hi everyone

My nephew is one of those unlucky few who will probably not make it to a University 😢 Already we are considering the following alternatives. :slapshead:

      1) Polytechnic
Can my nephew gain admission into Poly without a full A-level cert? or will he gain admission based on his previous O-level results?

      2) Private Institution
Which Private Institution can provide a degree course without breaking the bank? :moneyflies:

      3) Re-take the A Levels
Can my nephew repeat his A-level in his JC if he has a full A-level cert?
If he needs to re-take his A-level as a science student in a Private Institution, can anyone please recommend a good one? :xedfingers:

Where can I find information about options (besides University) after A-levels?

      Much appreciate all opinions. :thankyou:

Is he interested in teaching? He can join MOE to get a teaching diploma. http://www.moe.gov.sg/careers/teach/applying/a-levels/

Can consider work + study route. That will help defray the cost of private degree. At the same time, he is gaining experience. Will be tough but there are advantages.

I did that. Completed studies slightly later than my friends who went to uni but in terms of career advancement and salary, I was ahead.

Your nephew don't have to do National Service? His decision will be affected by when he enrols & finishes his NS.

For entry to Poly, you may want to call the Poly directly. According to TP Admission website, for those with A leevl result, it is written \"Holders of Singapore-Cambridge GCE A Levels (Applicants will use Singapore-Cambridge GCE O Levels as Entry Qualifications)\"

Qns: Can my nephew repeat his A-level in his JC if he has a full A-level cert?
Ans: I believe the answer is NO. Check with the JC when he collected his result.

Private Institution : Ask your nephew what programmes he wants to do in the University. Different Private Institutions have programmes from different universities. Somes are good in one area, but others are good in another.

              Hi Koguma

I dont understand about the NS bit. You mean he can defer his NS? How long can he defer? Is he allowed to defer til he repeats his A Level?

              Thanks

Personally I am not familiar with the NS policy, but i know he cannot defer his NS for poly and private institute.

Suggest you check with the JC after getting the result.

Whatever decision you make, you need to consider the NS part.

Hi TruthHurts, how did your nephew fare ?

Poly could be a good option if he does not like arts/biz courses like those offered by SIM.

When you say full A level cert, how many H2 and how many H1 subjects must be passed to constitute the minimum as having passed A level with FULL cert. ?

Who says after A levels the options can only be the uni?

The polys can also be an option.
                    What do you think ?
