Hi everyone
Just 2 thoughts:
1) Without a detailed point system like the old T scores system to guide parents and students in choosing schools, how would we know if my 3 A Stars and 1 A is good enough to enter a school like RI?
2) MOE/Schools now admit students based on meritocracy. Surely they must know the ranking order. Does this mean they have access to T scores and parents/students don’t? Essentially nothing has changed. In fact we have less transparentcy now!!!
Can other parents add their thoughts to enlighten me. Much appreciated.

What are my options after A Levels?
Hi everyone
My nephew is one of those unlucky few who will probably not make it to a University
Already we are considering the following alternatives. :slapshead:
1) Polytechnic
Can my nephew gain admission into Poly without a full A-level cert? or will he gain admission based on his previous O-level results?
2) Private Institution
Which Private Institution can provide a degree course without breaking the bank? :moneyflies:
3) Re-take the A Levels
Can my nephew repeat his A-level in his JC if he has a full A-level cert?
If he needs to re-take his A-level as a science student in a Private Institution, can anyone please recommend a good one? :xedfingers:
Where can I find information about options (besides University) after A-levels?
Much appreciate all opinions. :thankyou: -
RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)
Hi Parents of 2013 Year 1 ACSI pupils.
What does my son wear to registration/orientation on 19 Dec? Is it the old school uniform or the new school uniform? Do we need to bring our old report books and PSLE slip etc? I heard we can pay for the expenses through credit card. Please enlighten me. Thanks :lightrod: -
RE: DSA 2012
I don’t think those kids who are successful becos of DSA will get an SMS. It should be printed in the official result cert. If you are still anxious, check with the prospective school what time and where to report.
All the best -
RE: Weaning my son off computers and iPad Apps
I have done drastic things to my son as well to stop them from playing apps the whole day. But some how or other, I am just not firm enough. My will power melts once he gives me his pitiful look ; (

Can NT students qualify for Sports Sch & Sch of Sci/Tech?
Hi Parents
please enlighten me on this.
Can a student who can only qualify for NT after PSLE gain admission into Sec 1 Normal stream at either the Singapore Sports School or School for Science and Technology?
I heard that both these schools extend their support for academically challenged students (who are talented in Sports and Science)
Please enlighten us. Thanks. -
Help our kids see the relevance between studies and life
Hi Parents
Stumbled upon this during a discussion with a neighbour who lived overseas for a couple of years. No wonder our system is accused of ‘Hot-housing’
Example of an overseas fieldtrip organised by a school for 10 year olds.
1) School organises a learning journey to the diary farm.
2) Farm hand explores the technical aspects of the work like how cheese and milk are produced etc.
3) Teachers seize the opportunity to explore occupations and how important it is to appreciate farmers and workers who toil long hours to put food on our table (Thats the teaching of Values incorporated into the curriculum for you!)
4) Students are given ‘homework’ where they have to write a reflection on
their learning as well as interview a family member to find out more about their work.
5) Students present their learning in class a week later.
6) Write a short composition about jobs related to their family members or farm visit.
* the difference here is our kids are rushed through their learning journeys and there is no follow up and processing of their learning with the teacher the next day. When I ask my kids what they have learnt after a visit to the frog farm or HDB Hub, they only recall the snacks and games they ate on the bus ride there. I think our kids deserve more. I wonder what our education system is world class for?
Any views parents? Thanks -

Weaning my son off computers and iPad Apps
Hi Parents
Any idea how I can wean my boy off the App Games on iPad this holidays?
When I restrict his playing hours, he throws tantrums. I would like him to read more books and start preparing for Sec 1.
Can anyone share success stories please?
Thanks
