Getting money back from relatives is very difficult, if the person has no intention to pay you back, you can’t do anything about it.

If you ask them to pay you back, most outsider will think that you are so cruel/stingy to your own family/relatives, worse if the person ‘act’ like victim…
If you don’t ask them, you are going to suffer financially and mentally, it would even worsen your relationship with the person.

I couldn’t get my money back too, few thousands of hard earned money gone. I keep telling myself to let go and treat it as charity to help him/her, afterall, they are my family.

So, I tell myself this: I will never borrow any amount of money to my family members / relatives, if they ask for money from me, I just give them what I can afford to loss but will not expect them to pay me back.

        Hi mephiro

Yes, you are right. After what happened to my mum, I will never lend any money to anyone esp. relatives. Another thing is never be a guarantor. My sil was cheated by her best best friend. Her b b friend ran away and she has to pay off the debt in the end. Why there are such bad people in this world?

Yea, its very tricky business when somebody asks you to loan them money. But speaking of being a guarantor, I have been one to a complete stranger! This Indian student came over to Singapore to study in NUS. He asked if I could be a guarantor for a study loan since I was a Singaporean. He had no other options and me being his assigned local 'buddy', I couldn't reject him. I'm lucky that it turns out fine. This Indian friend is earning big bucks now in the Finance industry.

That’s the problem of giving home tuition, no black and white contract.

            So have to beware.

Travel to and fro, transportation charges, yet cannot get payment after teaching a whole month.
