It's ok if she can't be a scholar and a PhD holder. But she must be able to show empathy and work well with people and help those around her. I think I am beginning to see that I have rubbed off my believes on her 😄
Not necessarily mutually exclusive. Can be a scholar with high IQ & EQ plus humble & filial

            Chief, Buds :thankyou:

I have always believed that having empathy and high EQ is more important than just having high IQ.
I've seen my fair share of scholars and PhD holders in office. High IQ, low EQ and zero empathy. Totally cannot work and connect with people. The last thing I want is for my DD to be like them. It's ok if she can't be a scholar and a PhD holder. But she must be able to show empathy and work well with people and help those around her. I think I am beginning to see that I have rubbed off my believes on her 😄
            You are welcome.

The friends our children (and of course ourselves) hang out with can influence the nature of how they grow. Not necessary to mingle with only the high iq or the elite.. a good mix will be a good balance.

I grew up in a rough neighbourhood... but that does not mean I need to be a product of my environment. It does take some maturity apart from just mingling but my take is there is not just one absolute way of making children smarter.

The word smart itself has variations... book smart... street smart... etc...

            So..

A balanced kid with both relatively good iq and eq is the ideal by my book.

Good kids aren't easy to come by... especially these days. So I'm fortunate for the ones I have. :please:

Perhaps this report can be taken as evidence that hanging out with smart friends isn't always the best option.

              http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20130226-404794.html

She was the classmate of someone I know, and she was from a top school. Hers is not the only case. As a tutor, I have seen cases of students who were so stressed out that they gave up on their studies.

I think the danger with the research results on the importance of having intelligent friends is that it may give parents the idea that pushing their kids into an environment of studious people is the best. But I don't think such an environment is beneficial for everyone. Every child is unique and has different needs.

Of cos I know lah, but these are really the minorities these days. And parents' mentality during the upbringing years play a very impt role. Some parents I know will make sure that everything that the kids do is for academics or to prep them for their résumé for scholarship. Volunteer work must be officially recorded in CCA then they will allow their kids to join. No housework at home not even washing a cup. If these parents really believe in this study, they will only allow their kids to make friends with smart people. Aiyo, if that's the case, what type of people will they grow up to be?? :slapshead:

I would love my kids to have HIGH EQ. People with HIGH IQ but low EQ are irritating and unlikeable…but to management, they are of high value.
