non-affiliated boy cheated and ended up last in class.

      cheated?

Yes, in the SA2. So he got zero for his paper, hence became last in class. Actually boys who came in Non-affiliated, should be of good standard. Don't know why need to cheat.[/quote]Maybe he did not study for his exam. Some kids slacken when they go to Sec schools. Especially those who are addicted to PC or phone gaming.

There is this practice in CHS that the HOD Maths would issue an online test right after teaching a lesson. Students are subjected to these regular tests whether or not they had attended the lessons, or if they had been occupied during the earlier parts of the lesson (e.g. prefect duties, taking another test under another subject). Students who fail the tests had to stand in front of the class to endure the teacher's tirade of scoldings.

I feel this is a rather high-handed way of teaching, and isn't a really fair system of true educators. Does anyone else have DSs subjected to this system, or my DS is just telling me stories? I do see the email notices from ACE-learning about the online tests almost every other day.

My son's Math teacher did not scold those who failed the test. They do not have online test right after every lesson. Is your son in Sec 1 or Sec 2? I think the HOD has higher expectation from the class. It does not reflect well on the teacher. The kids might lose interest in the subject & dislike Math lessons.

Thanks for sharing the same view. My son's in Sec 2. Some unorthodox way of stress training, perhaps.

The school will be giving the boys a lunch break at around 1pm. What time do your boy take his lunch on school days? My boy normally takes his lunch at around 3 or 4pm at Junction 8. However, he is unable to take his dinner at 7 pm.

Does your boy join UG in CHS? Does it take up a lot of his time & is the training tough? How often do they have camping?

Didn't yours already select his CCA? No, mine doesn't join JG, but it's common for them to eat lunch at 3pm. *sigh*.

The school will be introducing a lunch break in term 2. My boy joins Scouts. It takes up a lot of his time. Fri is from 3pm to 6.30pm & Sat 12pm to 5pm. Have to attend campfire & camp. Training includes lots of running & push up too. Not sure about NCC or NPCC.

Weekday (depending on which day their patrol prefers) is their patrol day - which the patrol gathers for small group training and the timings is flexible within the patrol.

Trainings are only stepped up before camps or competitions. Two weeks before end of year exams (one week for common tests) scout activities are stopped for revision.

However there is no common test schedule this term due to upcoming S'pore Youth Festival (hence no break this term) - for which the aesthetics CCA groups have been having almost daily trainings since day one of school; much worse than scouts.
