Birthday parties - but you shouldn’t need to bring provisions for that! At the most bring plasters. My plasters always come in very handy, hehe.

The adult has to be the ice breaker. I will always say hi to the kids, introduce myself, introduce my child, ask their names etc. Some kids will model naturally, others need a bit more prompting. Ds1 can start a game in any playground with total strangers. Ds2 is more reserved and will watch from the sidelines without a familiar older kaki but he is gradually coming to his own.

        .

Hahahahah no, I wont bring a big bag of snacks when attending birthday. I think the host would be 😮 I am thinking of bringing something else eg small projector. You know those small projectors which can project imagines with sound? Your idea on sharing got me thinking about this projector that I have at home.

About the plasters – can you elaborate on that? You don’t go right in and start to give plasters right?

Plasters for small accidents that happen with a crowd of kids. I have patched up a number of kids over the years. 🙂

            Hi,

This is my very first post in this forum. :rahrah:

I have a 7 year old dd and have been trying for #2 two years ago. I was recently told that IVF is no longer viable for me and I have gone through numerous rounds of IUI and suffered from 2 miscarriages.

My dd has no cousins from both sides as well. Like every mother, I worry for her to be lonely after we are gone. It pains me to think that she will witness our passing one after another; albeit no sibling support.

            *sigh*

For now, with our companionship, she is a contented lovely kid. And I do see awkwardness when she's at the playground.

Just curious, do you buy those cartoon plasters?

                Welcome annisabel!

I have the same concern too, that my child will be all alone when hubby and I passed on. I hope he has a group of close friends who will stand by him in time of need.

No cartoon plasters for me. The habit started with my son's eczema. We used to go through so many plasters a week it would be uneconomical to buy cartoon plasters. 🙂 besides some playground scrapes are pretty bad, cuts to the feet etc, handaplasts are still the best. But if your child has sensitive skin, don't leave the latex plasters on overnight.

Me3! Even though he has 8 cousins of different ages, they are not close as they see each other only 3-4 times a year. All busy with their study & own friends. My DS is the \"slow to warm up\" kind so he got problem mixing with other kids when young. I was constantly worry about him not able to find close friend. He is slightly better now but still I don't see him go out with friends at all.

It’s like we fear that they 想抱一个人哭都没有。After some time of trying for a second one, I began to think that one of the best gifts the parents can give to a child is another siblings (the other gifts include good health, good and safe growing up condition and the opportunity to go to school). But if it is not going to happen, I would need plan B.

My child only has 4 cousins (with the 5th on the way). Not very close too. 2 are teenagers already and the other 2 are preschoolers. The hope is my kid adores the two teenage cousins, whom I hope would/could guide my little one. If what I see now can be held true to what it would be when he is grown up, I am sure my son would have friends. He never fails to get invite to go bday parties or casual meet ups at the playgrounds. His little pals would all run up to me and ask,”xx (my son’s name) mummy, later we going to playground. Can xx come?” He is like the alpha male among the boys. Even some of the girls get swooned over by him. So well, he should have a certain level of social skills in time to come. The question is what kind of friends?

I agree. Another question on my mind is what kind of husband will my dd marry? Is he reliable to replace a sibling.

Btw, my dh is the only child. So he could never understand the need for another sibling. But after witnessing the ordeals I went through, we will start adoption proceedings in July.

At the meantime, I need to convince my parents on adoption.
