No cartoon plasters for me. The habit started with my son's eczema. We used to go through so many plasters a week it would be uneconomical to buy cartoon plasters.ammonite:
Plasters for small accidents that happen with a crowd of kids. I have patched up a number of kids over the years.

Just curious, do you buy those cartoon plasters?
besides some playground scrapes are pretty bad, cuts to the feet etc, handaplasts are still the best. But if your child has sensitive skin, don't leave the latex plasters on overnight.

Me3! Even though he has 8 cousins of different ages, they are not close as they see each other only 3-4 times a year. All busy with their study & own friends. My DS is the \"slow to warm up\" kind so he got problem mixing with other kids when young. I was constantly worry about him not able to find close friend. He is slightly better now but still I don't see him go out with friends at all.Welcome annisabel!
I have the same concern too, that my child will be all alone when hubby and I passed on. I hope he has a group of close friends who will stand by him in time of need. -

It’s like we fear that they 想抱一个人哭都没有。After some time of trying for a second one, I began to think that one of the best gifts the parents can give to a child is another siblings (the other gifts include good health, good and safe growing up condition and the opportunity to go to school). But if it is not going to happen, I would need plan B.

My child only has 4 cousins (with the 5th on the way). Not very close too. 2 are teenagers already and the other 2 are preschoolers. The hope is my kid adores the two teenage cousins, whom I hope would/could guide my little one. If what I see now can be held true to what it would be when he is grown up, I am sure my son would have friends. He never fails to get invite to go bday parties or casual meet ups at the playgrounds. His little pals would all run up to me and ask,”xx (my son’s name) mummy, later we going to playground. Can xx come?” He is like the alpha male among the boys. Even some of the girls get swooned over by him. So well, he should have a certain level of social skills in time to come. The question is what kind of friends? -

I agree. Another question on my mind is what kind of husband will my dd marry? Is he reliable to replace a sibling.
Btw, my dh is the only child. So he could never understand the need for another sibling. But after witnessing the ordeals I went through, we will start adoption proceedings in July.
At the meantime, I need to convince my parents on adoption. -
Annisabel:
that's interesting. I thought only child would have felt it the most.

Imami:
Might not as they never have one before. What you never have, you won't feel any loss.

My DS never ask me for sibling even now. He heard horror stories of siblings from those classmates who have siblings so he kind of being influenced by them. More than 1/3 of his classmates are only child too so it's like telling him it's ok & it's common to be the only child in Singapore. -
Imami:
I wouldn't worry too much about your DS not having friends as he is extremely popular among the kids. It's good to be sociable, just need to guide him on the type of friend's to befriend.

Not sure how you folks think about this. My main reason for having at least two kids is so that there is someone for them in bad times. I have seen how some friends (with siblings) work/huddle together in time of crisis. I fear that my son does not have any support when he meets crisis.
Of cos we also hear stories of how siblings are not closer than friends. So maybe all is not lost.
But I wonder if my son, being the only child and seemingly developing/growing well, lacks the nurturing of a compassionate heart towards taking care of someone who is weaker. -
I believe having a religion is extremely important to only child. My hubby is an atheis but he supports my decision to make sure that our son attends Church every week. By knowing Jesus, he will have inner strengths and knows that God is always with him no matter what. He will never be alone. He can always depends on God.
No matter what your religions are, please introduce it to your only child. He/she would need it more than those that have siblings. -
As the starter of the thread, I have hardly posted for a long time.
Although I have given up especially since my gal is now 10, but the issue of not being able to deliver another child still hurts.
Seeing the younger gals in office getting pregnant is okay. But seeing the older ladies around age 40 get pregnant gets me affected.
I will think ’ Why not me and what did I do wrong ?'
Strangely, I have never felt any peace about going to do any assisted conception.
So I just have to content myself and accept the fact that I will only have one child and pray hard that she will grow up well.
