Hello ! 7-10 days is not enough if you plan to have skiing trip up Mt Buller.Hi,
My family of 5 is planning to go Melbourne this June holiday, about 7-10 days. It will be winter, hopefully the weather wouldn't be too cold for us. My kids love to see snow.
Am travelling with 2 teens, and a child age 9.
Anyone can recommend itinerary and/or places to visit in Melbourne during winter? Would really appreciate and save us alot of time to research.
Recommendation on nice accommodation would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
In Melbourne city, we stayed at Mantra on Little Bourke. This is a decent apartment 8-10 min walking distance near City on a quiet street. Parking can be expensive in the city. There is no parking at Mantra. If you do have a rental car, the street in front of Mantra has limited parking. Street parking is free after 5pm to 7am. We took the airport shuttle to Mantra on Little Bourke and rented our car only on 4th day.
Highlight of the trip is a self drive 5D4N trip to Mt Buller. Check out this website for your apartment rental on Mt Buller http://www.mtbullerams.com.au.
The drive up was easy and well-organized. You will be guided up Mt Buller along the way. If self drive, remember to get the wheel chain at rental shop before you drive up the Mt. At mid point, You need to pay for parking your car and a transport service up to MT Buller . U will park your car at a big carpark and within mins, a 4 wheel drive will come and then you will have to bundle your luggage & food supply to the roof of this car. Make sure you pack light only for the stay at Mt Buller. Leave the rest of things in the boot of your car.
We timed our stay during the weekend of Winter Open Festival. There was stage performances, cakes, balloons, warm red wine and even fireworks during the opening ceremony! I think this year 7-9 June is Winter Fest weekend. But you better confirm the dates again.
Ask for an apartment right in the centre, near the Playground. We had a ground floor unit. Our kids played right outside their room.
We booked an apartment with snow insurance inclusive. If it doesn’t snow 3 days before our booking dates, we could cancel the apartment booking. They have very nice apartments and each come w fully equipped kitchen. You should buy your enough food supply for the trip before you drive up to Mt Buller.
A bottle of coke at the Mt cost AUS $4.
Have fun! -

Hello, this is the first time accessing this thread as we suddenly thought of going mount buller this August on Chan BRother’s package.
I wanted to consult all of you:
1. How is your experience with Mt Buller? I read on tripadvisor that it is quite ex.
2. if it is not snowing, will there be snow on the ground? sorry if i sound stupid.
3. can we try snow mobile and sled? we have a 5 year old kid, dont think we will try ski.
Thanks!!! -
There are few sledge slops at Mt Buller so your kid should be able to play. Aug is still winter and ski is still open so there should be snow on the ground - but may or may not be natural snow. Mostly made by snow machine though to groom the slope.
Yes, Mt Buller to go yourself is pretty Ex. So i am taking a day trip up this June holidays. Cos to save the trouble of driving up there, park at the desinagted car park and pay high parking fees, entrance fees, hotel fees, transfer fees etc etc. -

Usually by 3rd week of June, Mt Buller will be snowing. You can call them to check. When I went in 2011 June 2nd wk, the whole place was covered with snow.
We stayed 4D3N in an apartment. We only managed to play sled during the trip as our kids were not keen to take ski course.
If you only plan to take 1 day tour to Mt Buller, honestly there isnt time to do much.

Hi appreciate if anyone has good recommendations of tour companies offering reliable and value-for-money day trips around Melbourne. Looking at places such as Great Ocean Road, Philips Island, Puffy train ride, farm visit etc.
Many thanks!
